Can anyone provide advice for upgrading the door speakers in a 2016 Leaf SV? No car stereo store is sure how much modification is needed or even which size (5-1/4 or 6-1/2 inch) will fit.

I got:

four Infinity Kappa 52.11I 5-1/4" 2-way speakers.
Metra 82-3412 98 Geo Prism Speaker Adaptor
Metra 72-7401 Speaker Harness

Installation involved prying off the door panel, unhooking the door panel, removing the old speakers, mounting the new speakers (which involves drilling a hole through the inside sheet metal to get the adaptor to fit, and then putting it back.

There are videos about Youtube that show this.

It is not that hard. once you get the first door done, you cruise through the others.

Are the OEMs 6-3/4"?

Asking because I want to get the largest I can fit into that hole. Eventually I will be grabbing a self contained amp/subwoofer that will be installed later on. Most likely into a cavity somewhere like the hatch door or under a seat. (There actually is space, if you remove the seat first before installing, and the unit I decided on requires only 4". If not, I will likely just secure it to the back of the rear seats. I don't fold mine down, ever, mainly because of the charging hump in my 2012 SL.

You could go to Crutchfield dot com and sort by price till you see what you want to spend. Remember, budget is also relative.

Somewhat amusing... I grew up in the 70's, with the powerful amps and big speakers. I rarely listen to the big stereo anymore. Except for headsets, most devices I listen to are pretty crappy. Laptop speakers, ipod docs, cheap radios...
Where can I listen to quality music? In our cars. I really like the subwoofer in the Leaf. I used to play bass, and really enjoy the deep sound (tho I never play it very loud. Nothing worse than hearing 'other peoples music', and I'd be mortified to get that look from the next car, at a light). We have the standard stereo in the Lexus, but the sound is really good in that, too.
Times, and devices change. The big, heavy Advent speakers were never unpacked, when we bought this house 20 years ago.
