That's good - it means that the USB port will supply high power (probably 500mA). It'll probably be useful for charging phones too.

Its an older Western Digital drive. Looks like this:

Any mini type hard drive (2.5") should work.

Sorry if repeating, but didn't find it - does Leaf recognise and drive iPhone as music source thru, or you have to use AUX for that?

It does work with iphones and ipods. If you plug in the iphone/ipod with the usb cable, you can control the device through the car. It works well. You can sort by artist, title, etc. It's a better system than if you just plug in a USB drive (since you can't sort music very well when just using the USB drive). The navigation/audio system manual explains the features pretty well.

hope that helps.

Any chance the USB port is powered even when the car is off? It would be nice to have that power source (e.g. for charging a dead phone when you're not in the car) without the entire vehicle being powered.

One of my big gripes about laptops - USB ports not powered unless the laptop is turned on - even if it is plugged in.

I don't have my car yet, but am hoping to plug in my iPod Classic...with >5500 tracks on it. I'm a classical music listener, so like to listen to albums in order, or playlists that I have created. Will there be any troubles with the LEAF reading from this older technology?

Maybe on in accessory mode? Of course that would be most useful if accessory mode didn't unlock the "ignition" lest anyone could get in your car and drive away.

Otherwise, this works well. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036ORMS0/ref=oss_product. Keep it in any sunny place like stuck to a car window, and it stores charge to feed your mobile devices later.

Not all of them. http://us.toshiba.com/computers/research-center/technology-guides/sleep-and-charge This works great with the computer in "suspend" state, but not in "hibernate" or "off" states - for me at least.

Linda...,
I believe that others have reported that the early-technology (like the iPod Classic) does not work (well?) with the LEAF.

Checkout user manual for details - page 130. iPod Classic® (firmware version 1.1.2 or later) is compatible.

Thanks.

Then it is only the Classic iPod versions BEFORE 1.1.2 that are not compatible?

Does anybody know what is the first noticeable symptom of these iPods not working with the LEAF?
