Wheel bolts same between 16" steel and 17" alloy wheels (2015)?

Thu Jul 11, 2019 5:03 pm

Hello,

I just bought a used set of 2015 OEM 17" wheels for my 2015 S model with stock 16" steelies.

My question, as I'm building the set with tires, is whether I can reuse my stock 16" steel wheel bolts for the 17" alloys?
I did notice another SV model today with the stock 17" alloys and the bolts might've looked a little different (definitely had 1 locking wheel bolt per each tire, something my steel wheel bolts don't have).

Nissan is obsessed with 5 on 4.5 lug pattern on cars and 12x1.25mm lug nuts.
They are the same.

I'd check with a dealer to see if the part number is the same for the lug bolts between the 17" and 16" wheels. I'm guessing they will interchange since both are Nissan wheels but it wouldn't hurt to check. You could try a test fit but I'm not sure how to tell if they are acceptable except in the extreme case that they don't fit or aren't long enough.

Thanks for the responses so far. Everywhere I've read says the same, that Nissan uses only one style of bolt, or rather stud + nut.

However, I guess maybe I need to understand if the nut types between the 16" steel and 17" alloys are the same, (seating, etc)?

Does anyone have a pic of their 17" alloy wheel nut?

It's unlikely Nissan is using different stud or lug nuts for aluminum vs. steel wheels. However, I'm a little OCD and always get a 2nd set of new/clean lug nuts that I reserve for the aluminum wheels (and never intermix them or use them with the with the steelies). Why???...The steel wheels will tend to wear grooves in the contact seats of the nuts, that can cause wear problems on the softer aluminum wheel seats. Also, if you drove through the corrosive road chemicals that I do, you would want a special set of lug nuts to basically trash with winter use with the winter steelie's. I'm thinking about getting a set of 16" steelies for my '19 Leaf, but that would be a complete package (wheels, TPMS sensors, winter tires, plastic wheel covers, and dedicated lug nuts).
