Shark Fin antenna cover

Fri Sep 09, 2011 8:57 am

I never cared for the stock antenna. It looks too much like a insect antenna. I purchased a Shark Fin antenna cover from http://www.sharkfinantenna.com and installed it. Its custom painted to my Leaf's paint code. I think it looks much better. It cost $81.00 total.

I like it! Any increase in noise? That was supposedly the "official" reason for deleting the shark fin from the production LEAF vs the prototype.

They are manufactured and assembled in Canada; therefore, its quality stands out.

What exactly is the advantage this "quality" part is trying to sell? Aerodynamics?

I think just aesthetic appeal. Presumably provides the same reception without RC-car-style antenna :)

The thing that's always killed me about these shark fin antennas is that they are completely non-aerodynamic.

Shape them like a teardrop, man!

Put one on my Prius anyway after the stock antenna was damaged in a car wash, but the radio reception is pretty poor in comparison.

I forgot to add that this cover is also the new AM/FM antenna and I have no degradation in picking up signals. I haven't noticed any difference in noise, but I always have the SAT radio on.

I went to the website, and there didn't seem to be one specifically for the Leaf. Which did you order? The Versa?

I sent them an email with my model, year and paint color. They provided a Paypal invoice last week. The Shark Fin antenna has already been sent out and should arive in a few days.

I'd want to hear the experience of more users. This part of the web site bothered me:

"Though the stock antenna will usually still provide better reception...."

Also, how about the car wash? It seems that the fins would bend less than the stock antenna, and thus get pulled off or dislocated.

The shark fin antennas are fiberglass. If it bends it's broken.
