The popularity of leasing means that lightly used EVs are often on the market - 34% of EV sales in 2017 so far have been preowned. To help you in your search, here are five things to think about when buying used. http://bit.ly/BuyinganEV

Bonus Tip:
Driving habits and conditions affect battery life, however, losing range hasn’t been a serious problem with used EVs, many of which have hit over 100,000 miles and are still going strong. More at the link!

What are your tips for anyone out there looking to purchase a preowned EV?

This is bad information, especially in a Leaf forum. I suggest you try to limit tips to charging-related subjects.

Indeed.

OP should consult these:
https://web.archive.org/web/20130115102522/http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=228326 (even a 4 capacity bar loser when the Leaf had only been out 21 months)
http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=9694 besides the monster thread at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=8802
http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=23606 - already have been some 1 to 4 capacity bar losers on 30 kWh Leafs (began w/model year 2016), including some of the 4 bar losers already having their HV battery replaced under capacity warranty
Examples of 4 bar losers on 30 kwh Leafs (began w/model year 2016):

These folks have lost over 30%, possibly as much as 40% of their battery capacity.

http://www.electricvehiclewiki.com/Real_World_Battery_Capacity_Loss - unfortunately, not updated much any more.

http://www.electricvehiclewiki.com/Battery#Battery_Capacity_Behavior is derived from the table in the '11 Leaf service manual.

I personally know some folks here in the Bay Area who were able to lose 4 bars within the 5 year/60K capacity warranty (http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?t=13192) and got their HV battery replaced for free under warranty, including 1 person at my work. My work is within a few miles of Chargepoint HQ.

For those who are down 4 bars outside the the 5 year/60K capacity warranty and had the misfortune of it happening when Nissan decided to no longer help w/the replacement cost.... tough luck.

Guys, lighten up.. It was a generic informational tease for chargepoint. They were giving advice on buying a used EV, not how long a Leaf battery lasts...

Agree with Leftiebiker. If they keep this up we will ignore them and their chargers.
I already have. I removed the ChargePoint license plate holder from my car and canceled my account too. When they started trashing Tesla for their chargers, that struck a nerve with me. It's not "us vs. them"; it's us vs. the anti-environmentalists.

I still use Chargepoint stations because they are still free here. If they go to pay to play, then things may change. They really need to get some quality people for their online presence. As it is it appears to be the Interns are running the show.

Besides in the OP, I actually visited where their bit.ly links leads to: https://www.chargepoint.com/blog/5-things-consider-when-buying-used-ev/. It still has the bad info.

FYI for the OP, we're now up to at at at least 12 known model year '16 30 kWh Leafs which have lost 4 capacity bars. 11 are at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=519601#p519601. #12 is at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=23606&start=860. Will be posting a list update after we get a few more. They've each lost somewhere north of 30ish% capacity compared to new.

Looks like the lowest mileage 4 bar loser so far is iPlug at 18,050 miles. The rest seemed to range from that up to ~40K miles, so far.

Chargepoint chargers aren't owned by Chargepoint, they are owned by whomever had them installed. As a result, they set the prices, not Chargepoint. That being said, I have had to contact Chargepoint's customer service twice and both times a live person answered the phone and got my charge started for me.

The ChargePoint mission is to get everyone behind the wheel of an EV and provide them a place to charge wherever they go. In fact, Tesla drivers have traveled over 63 million miles on ChargePoint (enough to get to Mars, coincidentally). We also offer information for Tesla owners on the ChargePoint blog, we have partnered with Teslarati to show ChargePoint stations on their app, and we share exciting Tesla news with our followers on social media. We do not have the "us vs. them" perspective. Tesla is helping to move the electric vehicle industry forward and we appreciate their approach and innovation. We apologize if we offended you in any way.

Maybe things have changed since ChargePoint posted this tweet:

Who Has The World's Biggest EV Charging Network? Trigger Warning: It Ain't Tesla: https://t.co/3UXaNrDt93 pic.twitter.com/DR8RYnM2Wz

— ChargePoint (@ChargePointnet) September 15, 2016

Even though this tweet was deleted, things posted on the Internet tend not to die. This is not good optics. This is ChargePoint vs. Tesla. That is NOT how things should be.
