Portugal and Ireland will begin taking pre-orders as of today, taking a €300 (~$390) refundable deposit as part of the process. Pre-ordering in the UK will begin on September the 1st. So far, there are 12,000 "hand-raisers" in Europe. They will get test drives in December, at which point they can decide whether to order or not. If not, they will receive their €300 deposits back.

I already ordered my White LEAF. I got the reserve number I100028. Estimated delivery between February and April :(

Wish you all the best in getting your Leaf as soon as possible.

Congrats on your reservation! Welcome to the club.

Thank you. I've a question to know how are your insurance companies dealing with the electric cars?. Can anyone give me an idea so I can compare to what I should expect here ;). Thanks

Do't know yet ...

BTW, looking at your reservation # I'd have thought you are in Ireland. May be "I" stands for Individual ?

I don't know the meaning either but nissan says that the number as nothing to do with my position in the cue list.

Bem vindo, ruimegas.

Was just wondering about this today. Has anyone contacted their insurance agent/company to inquire about likely rates for LEAF? Worth starting a separate thread or should we wait until closer to December?

I called 21st Century Insurance to ask. They have no idea, as their computer only shows cars currently in production. I would guess it should be about the same as the Nissan Versa, but didn't ask for a quote on that car.

I just read that the Leaf introduction for Holland is delayed by 6 months until June 2011. Sources say there are around 500 Leafs on order in Holland but Ireland, Portugal and the UK have a larger demand.

The only question I have with respect to Ireland and Portugal...here we hear your economies are in the toilet almost as bad as the one in Greece. Is this an over-generalization? How do you, and people in your circle of acquaintance, feel about economic prospects there?

Since in US, we control our currency, can't be compared with Greece at all. Best comparison of Greece is to California - both of which don't control their currency and thus can't depreciate currency to escape insolvency ;-)

What I know is that European banks just finished a global "stress" test and the Portuguese ones got better results than some of bigger european economies including Germany.

Besides, a month ago one Euro worth a 1,20 of one US dollar and today it's worthing 1,30 of a dollar. Does this mean that we are not in such a bad shape US economy specialist say... I don't know but looks like.

Anyway we have the feeling here that the worst's already gone.

That's good. I sometimes think we feeling the same way here, then some small bit of negative news sends us all cowering into the corner in a fetal position! :(
