We have 3kw of solar with batteries and we use either the larger clipper creek charging at the full 6kWh rate from the grid during off peak or we have a 20a 240vac outlet with a smaller adjustable EVSE that is fed from our inverter to charge the car. I would estimate about 1/2 of our Leaf charging come straight from PV. If we need to charge on peak we will just use our PV / batteries to charge up at 14 amps at 240vac, pulling nothing from the grid. It is nice becasue the EVSE can be set anywhere from 6 amps at 240vac to 30? amps, but I usually leave it set to 14 amps on the 240 vac plug. Our inverter is a xantrex 6048, meaning it is 6000w continuous supply at 240vac and is fed from 48vdc battery bank consisting of eight L16's or approx 400 amps at 48v or just under 20 kWh of storage. I did keep our older smaller xantrex 2000w 12v sine wave inverter as well and that is running from a few older L16's as well, backup to backup...
