Battery bank recharge

Has anyone tried a bank of car batteries, on constant recharge, run thru an inverter, to recharge a Leaf with 220v 60 amp?

It would seem to serve the needs of some to set one of these up if they could not get access to a 220/60a circuit near their car.

May work well with a solar based owner.

There are systems available, or DIY, it's just expensive.

The USA 2013 LEAF L2 charge port is intended for 240v 60 cycle
proper sine wave AC power, up to about 30 amps, and the
earlier year models can use only about half that current.

So, the 60 amp inverter capability would be a waste, unless
you had a mini-QC device, and the car has a QC port. Then,
with the battery bank, there would be no need for an inverter,
since you would probably want to design the mini-QC to be
able to accept and use the battery bank DC input directly.

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to share charge from one LEAF to another?

Not "designed in", but a LEAF-rescue-LEAF is one of the things on
our to-do list. A QC port, at least in Japan, can be used to power
a house from the energy stored in the LEAF's battery pack.

So, if the USA version is also capable of that car2home operation
(that is, negotiating with an external "QC" type device to allow
energy to be taken out of the battery pack), then a "Share-QC"
device could be designed, with two Jolomo type mini-QC plugs,
and sufficient electronics between them.

This would be basically a DC powered mini-QC unit used to charge
the "recipient" car, and a "Share-QC" controller for the donor-car.

The DC powered mini-QC should be an easy variation of the AC
powered mini-QC that we are experimenting with, and the
"Share-QC" controller should be easy, once we discover the
car-to-home protocol... all assuming that the USA version of
the LEAF is car2home capable, of course.

When a suitable, reliable network of QC stations is available 24/7,
there would be less need for such a device.
