The last 4 SOC-Meters shipped have the new Filter Holder add-on.

The two with Red Digits have the filter included.

The two with Blue Digits have the Filter Frame installed,
but we do not yet have the filter itself.

More later.

Installing the Filter Frame:

1. Center the frame around the Display, being careful to not press on the Display.

The vertical centering is not critical, but I center the frame vertically in the face of the box, just for cosmetics.

The horizontal centering IS critical. Center the frame horizontally so that the Digit at either end of the display is equally visible. The frame is a "tight fit" horizontally.

2. Without moving the frame, carefully mark the box's plastic at the CENTER of each hole, using an awl or other sharp object. Do not press on the box "too much".

3. Remove the frame and CAREFULLY drill two 1/16 inch diameter holes, one centered at each awl mark. DO NOT drill more than about 1/8 inch into the box.

4. Mount the Frame with the two included screws, one into eack of the two carefully drilled 1/16" diameter holes. Do not press "too heavily" on the box while screwing in the screws.

5. Cut the thin plastic filter material (Red or Blue to match your Display's Digits) to just slide into the frame's recess. Better to cut too little off than too much.

6. Slide the filter into the "slot" at the top edge of the frame. If you have cut well, the filter will not fall out, but you will be able to slide the thin filter out if needed.

Pictures soon, probably Saturday.

I will order Filters and Filter Holders so that all SOC-Meter
Kit and Built owners that want it can have it.

The Filter Holder now becomes a Standard Feature.

Most are choosing Blue.
It goes well with the other interior "blue accents".

Fewer choose Red.
Those with "red" cars may choose it to "match" their LEAF.

The Red is possibly brighter, or the eye more sensitive to it.
But, the Blue seems to be "bright enough".

The Red Filter works well, but I still need to find
a similar material that I can actually order.

The Blue Filter is not yet available, but I have identified
a material (theatrical lighting filter) that seems to work well.

With the filters, both the Red and the Blue Digits become
nicely "readable", both at night, and in sunlight.

In the first post, I [thought that I] added a picture of the frame
on a box, and a picture of the filter material that I have ordered.

Strange, where did the pictures go?

I have received the "bulk" filter-material that I ordered, and more Filter-Holder frames.

It looks good, but I am not yet able to test in sunlight, and get some good pictures.

Perhaps I will be able to send (maybe bring???) some frames and Red and Blue filter material to this coming Saturday's Gathering (19 Nov at HTB on 17th in Santa Ana).
Then, you folks can test it out.

The frame installs with two short screws, after CAREFULLY positioning and drilling two small (1/16 inch diameter) holes in the box, one to either side of the display opening.

If you want a Filter Holder frame to screw to the front of your SOC-Meter,
and a Red or Blue filter to slide into the Holder (frame) ...

please send an email to me at:
plugin2 <at-sign> mboxes <period> com

with the Subject line either:
SOC-Filter RED
or
SOC-Filter BLUE

and include your MAILING address in a nice little
paragraph that I can Cut and Paste.

Over the next week (or two) ...
I hope to be able to get the frames and filters mailed out.

Merry Christmas, Ho, Ho, Ho!

P.S.
Hopefully some frames and filters will make it to this Saturday's
SoCal Gathering at HTB (19 Nov).
Please have RED or BLUE, your name, mailing address,
email address, and MNL User ID (if any) written on a slip of paper
to swap for the frame and filter.

Only a few have asked for the Filter (see previous post).

Is anybody using their filter yet?

What is your experience with your filter, the:
1. Blue Cel?
2. Red Cel?
3. Old (thicker) Red?

Thanks.

I had 3 requests as of a week ago.
I have not yet been able to "do email" recently, but hope to try it today.

I will prepare the mailings when I get a bit better,
so I have not actually sent any yet.

Please be patient.
I will start a "SOC-Filter Sent" thread when I actually mail them.

I was going to install the SOC meter but am not sure where the easiest place is to access the OBD cable

As I do not want to start pulling panels any help?

Thanks

No need to pull panels. The connector is about an inch left of the steering column and about an inch forward from the lower edge of the plastic panel. It is not covered.
