Re: Our solar production

Tue Sep 01, 2015 10:56 am

At 1887 kWh, August 2015 was the highest August to date, even factoring in the array additions last year. It beat out 2012, which equates to ~1852 kWh assuming it were 28% larger.

The peak production day last month was August 16 at 78.4 kWh, which was just shy of last year's August record on July 15, 2014 at 79.1 kWh.

Below are all our numbers for 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 along with the PVWatts predictions for the old array (PVW42: good through June 2014) and the new array (PVW54: good starting with July 2014):

Code: Select all

Month    PVW42   2011   2012   2013   2014   2015  PVW54  Units
---------------------------------------------------------------
January    916    669    869    822    857   1006   1229   kWh

March      965      0   1350   1152   1113   1547   1240   kWh
April     1465      0   1465   1495   1338   1737   1899   kWh
May       1583      0   1477   1491   1457   2069   2074   kWh
June      1268      0   1478   1368   1521   1585   1666   kWh

Code: Select all

July      1448    595   1395   1406   1880   1823   1902   kWh
August    1442   1347   1447   1333   1794   1887   1875   kWh
September 1209    910   1295   1414   1577          1555   kWh
October   1304    931    981   1034   1258          1713   kWh
November   864    949   1041   1018   1227          1154   kWh
December   820    803    612    669    812          1108   kWh
---------------------------------------------------------------
Totals   13986   6362  14495  14068  15888  13015  18330   kWh
Since installation, our system has produced 63.828 MWh as of the end of August 2015.

Net grid consumption since August 2011 (when PV was turned on permanently) has been 12.5 MWh. Solar production during this period was 63.0 MWh. Total consumption equals 75.5 MWh. Solar has provided 83% of that total.

P.S. I split the "code" block into two parts since I noticed that the new forum has been adding scroll bars to my table.

I haven't created or joined any PVOutput team, but my array does feed PVOutput

September 2015 saw 1495 kWh of production. This was slightly lower than last year and slightly higher than was previously produced in September with the original, smaller array. Production was quite good until the last week of the month when it started raining. It's still raining, so October will start off slowly. Since we need the rain, it is a good thing!

The peak production day last month on the 14th was a record for September at 78.0 kWh, which was slightly above last year's September record on September 22, 2014 at 77.2 kWh.

Below are all our numbers for 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 along with the PVWatts predictions for the old array (PVW42: good through June 2014) and the new array (PVW54: good starting with July 2014):

Re: Our solar production

I was surprised to find that October production was the worst I've had in the eight years I have been tracking it: down 16% from October 2014 and a stunning 27% from October 2012, the best production for that month. This October was the warmest I can remember in my three decades in Colorado — didn't even have the first freeze until the last week — but I guess it was cloudier than I realized, despite the pleasant temperatures.

Code: Select all

Results for October for the last eight years:
                   Old panels   Old+New panels
                  (700 Watts)   (2170 Watts)
October 2015          84 kWh       235 kWh
October 2014         100 kWh       279 kWh
October 2013          98 kWh       276 kWh
October 2012         113 kWh       322 kWh
October 2011         100 kWh
October 2010          98 kWh
October 2009          87 kWh
October 2008          96 kWh

Code: Select all

Annual production:
2015      2732 kWh (so far)
2014      3217 kWh (= an average of 4.06 hours x panel wattage per day)
2013      3327 kWh (4.20 hours x panel wattage per day)
2012      1409 kWh
2011      1203 kWh (4.71 hours x panel wattage per day)
2010      1132 kWh (4.43 hours x panel wattage per day)
2009      1165 kWh (4.56 hours x panel wattage per day)
2008       232 kWh (partial year)

Since my production covers my entire electricity use for running my LEAF and my house, for several years now I've paid nothing but the basic service charge ($16/month) to my local power co-op.

Degradation could also be an issue, although that's unlikely to account for all of your drop. I could see 5-10% just from that.
