This year there's a new Drive Electric event in NY - In Highland right next to the Mid-Hudson Bridge. This event should be able to accommodate anyone from Ulster/Dutchess/Orange/Sullivan/Putnam and parts of Westchester and Rockland. Here's the details:

National Drive Electric Week - Highland, NY
Saturday Sept. 20th, 6pm-9pm
Bridgeview Plaza, Highland NY
(Has a Hannaford Supermarket, McDonalds and a Tractor Supply Store)

Note that the address depending on gps or google maps is either (3650 Us Highway 9W, Highland, NY) or (650 Route 9W, Highland, NY)

The time/location was selected because there will already be a typical car show going on at that time (http://www.dutchesscruisers.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) so we will piggy back on that and have our own Electric corner.

Or even Rensselaer county as it is only 84 miles for me, well within the range of my Fit EV. :)

The event is shaping up quite nicely! So far 19 EVs including a Model S, a Roadster, a dealer i3, some conversion cars, and a handful of LEAFs, Volts, and PiPs. If you live within about 40 miles of Poughkeepsie please consider coming with your LEAF.

I'll also be displaying my LEAF sunroof (h/t Lasareth) and LeafSpy app for those who haven't gotten an ELM reader yet.

Forgot to add a photo from the event. Take a look at what's behind the LEAF...

So you turned your Leaf into a Nissan Volt? Interesting. Although I assume you cannot charge while driving. I looked briefly into a similar setup but it seems rather pricey for what you get (compared to a purpose-built EREV anyway).

I'm surprised to hear so many joined you. I grew up in East Fishkill, and still have family in the area so I visit often. I have not seen many EVs on the road. An occasional Volt, but no Leafs, Teslas, etc. It's good to see them catching on, though.

Not my LEAF :) Some guy showed up about an hour in with it and said he needs it because where he works doesn't let him plug-in so he would be out of range otherwise. I'm guessing he thought he wouldn't have this problem when he bought it or he would have gotten a Volt or the like.

I was also surprised at the turnout - On average I'll see about one to two EVs a month, with LEAFs, Volts and PiPs evenly distributed. I see a Model S maybe once or twice a year. I ended up trolling a bunch of forums/fb groups, put up flyers around the plaza and sent about fifteen messages to everyone who showed up on Plugshare within about 50 miles of the event.

I guess there is quite the concentration of EVs in the lower hudson valley (at least compared to NYS on average):

Whoa, 1,200 cars in Westchester! Hopefully next year we can get some of them up to our event =)

BTW, if you're reading this and live in Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Ulster, Rockland or any other county nearby please join our Hudson Valley EV drivers facebook group!
