Registration in Colorado

Mon Jun 15, 2015 9:14 pm

So I registered my vehicle in Broomfield county today. It was way more expensive than I thought it would be. I guess I haven't bought a brand new car in some time. I already knew about the $50 fee for EV. My question here to everybody is why is there an EV sticker we are supposed to mount on the passengers side top right inside of the windshield? What is the purpose of this sticker? What happens if I don't put it up there? I have googled and cannot find an answer.

I understand the $50 fee, although I don't like the $20 to the grant fund so Walgreens can charge a 500% markup on electricity plus a $.30 connection fee, but that's beside the point I guess.

I don't like stickers on my car. If my car is registered then obviously I have paid all fees. Anyone else in Colorado wonder this or am I the only one?

I would guess it's required as further proof that you have paid the fee?

I wondered about it as well. I never found or never searched for what would happen if I didn't put the sticker on. Honestly I rarely even see it as it is mounted up high on the pass side out of the way. My thought was it may be a way for a parking person or police officer to recognize that it is in fact an EV in the event you are occupying some specialized parking space.

Ya I suppose not everyone really knows that the leaf is all electric. I get that question all the time. So a sticker for special parking spaces would make sense. Thanks.

Waahh? I am sorry, but the $20 bucks to the grant fund is great and I wish it was a higher percentage of the fee. Whether it goes to paid or free stations at least it expands the state infrastructure. And for the record, I don't see Walgreens or many paid stations on this list:

Is the sticker a Broomfield county thing? I just registered my 2015 in Denver county and was not issued a sticker.

Nope it'sa state wide thing but they don't always give you the sticker (I think it's rare enough that they don't know or forget).

We own a LEAF and a Volt, never mounted the stickers. I've been told they only come into play with state funded chargers; ie if you use one you need to have the sticker "Or Else".

Thanks for that. I have been keeping my eye out for them and I have only seen a few EVs with them posted. So it seems that like you said most don't give them out and/or people aren't using them. I've used the chargers at DIA without problems.

I registered my Leaf today in Boulder county and was also issued this sticker. The lady told me that I had to display it or else I would "get a big ticket for using any of the chargers around here." :)

I registered my '16 SV Leaf today, also. It was about $750

It was over the phone so I won't see the sticker until next week.

What chargers is she talking about?

Sure wish there were some public DC Quick chargers along I70 and I25....
