There will be a meetup of Bakersfield Area Electric Vehicle owners at the Beale Library on Thursday April 30th at 5:30pm.

Scott DuPont, the author of the book and movie "What is an Electric Car" will be there to show the trailer of his movie and lead a discussion. Anyone in the southern Valley (and anyone who wishes to make the drive) is welcome to attend. If there is enough interest, we can start a monthly or semi-monthly breakfast meeting similar to what is happening in Cerritos and Santa Ana.

Details: http://www.meetup.com/Electric-Vehicle-Owners-of-Bakersfield-Meetup/events/221065138/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Beale Memorial Library is located at 701 Truxtun Avenue in beautiful downtown Bakersfield.

How was this event, and how many attended?

Gary,

My take was about two dozen people. It was at the library and we had free food so don't know how many of those were there just for the free food.

We had about a dozen cars, so there's a dozen drivers there. Leafs, MiEV, two BMWi3s, a Ford, Rav 4, and a Tesla. There was quite a line up of vehicles--the Tesla attracting the most attention naturally.

I've been working my way through Scott DuPont's book and we need to get his DVD up here to show people. The trailer was intriguing and now we want to see the whole movie.

There were some good questions and we did get a discussion going. The best real-life experience story was by Kevin Mershon who may have saved his friends life with his Ford C-Max Energi. See http://www.wind-works.org/cms/index...]=3575&cHash=2fed89c9b3a256689f8f87709c80e786.

There was announced that two L2s were going in across from the Library at the Amtrak station and several L2s going in a community college downtown. Construction on the latter has started.

Thanks for asking.

Paul

You might consider a Saturday morning breakfast somewhere
with good parking, like the HTB at the corner of White Lane and
South H Street (4221 S H St). They open for breakfast at 8 AM
on Saturday, and the seating at tables inside is usually quite
flexible for surprise (early arrival), unknown-size groups.

Folks seem to enjoy the wide variety of food available, and
eating and chatting. Down here in Orange County, we often
have some folks still there at noon.

If you announce the "event" and go yourself, the worst that
can happen is a nice breakfast by yourself. But, you could
easily have a dozen people show up. Do not eat breakfast
before going, and do not plan a luncheon afterwards.
If you leave hungry, you have done something wrong.

The worst that "can" happen is not what I said, but you
do not want to know.

Consider changing the title (by editing the first post) when you
decide on the next event. Perhaps Saturday the 30th of May,
2015, at 8 AM (or drift in later if that is too early for some),
at the Hometown Buffet for Breakfast.

I have not tried this partucular HTB location, so I do not know
its reputation for food quality and service. Some seem to have
better cooks, staff, and management than others, but some
are quite good.

Usually, one can enter for the breakfast price until about 10:30,
and then lunch pricing takes over until about 3:30, then dinner.

Gary,

Are you and Michael Bornstein in cahoots? He's said the same thing except he suggested a later breakfast, what I'd call a brunch.

This is what we have:

South Valley EV Owners Breakfast
Saturday, June 20, 2015
9.30 am
Golden Corral
5001 Ming Ave, Bakersfield, CA

This is the same kind of place as HTB.

Great minds think alike.
