2016 Leaf to have up to 180 miles of range!!!

Tue Aug 26, 2014 3:08 pm

According to http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/nissan/leaf/88344/nissan-leaf-to-get-sharp-new-look-and-range-boost:

Nissan bosses are promising new battery technology is on the way, with better energy density for a more usable pure electric vehicle. A figure of about 186 miles is likely to be the target.

Cool pics there too... it looks like the bubble headlights are gone making my 2011 a collectors item. ;)

186 in the UK might be a little higher than EPA rated in the USA.
Still great news :)

It's possible this could debut in the UK before the US... The 2017 MY can technically be anywhere from Jan 1, 2016 to Dec 31, 2017... And 186 miles mentioned is almost surely based on the Euro cycle which is more liberal than ours and gives higher numbers (much like the LA-4 cycle)...

Not digging the look, but it is only a concept and vapourware at this point. I plan on replacing the Leaf with a Tesla anyways, so my vote doesn't count...

I wonder where they moved the charge ports. It'd be super awkward to plug either J1772 or CHAdeMO into the nose judging by the angle of the fake grill. Unless those meetings with Tesla were more serious than we all thought?

Otherwise, I like it. Looks like they're copying the new Mazda3 hatchback somewhat, which I think is one of the best looking small cars out right now.

Clearly an informed writer based on this confusing quote"

"There’s a good chance Nissan will offer smaller battery packs with less range, like Tesla does with its 60kWh and 85kWh packs. The new battery technology and motor will be shared with Nissan’s luxury brand, Infiniti, too."

So Tesla offers "smaller" 60 and 85kwh packs and Infinity EVs are on the way

Copy of the Mazda and parts of the ugly Infinity SUV. A little CRX as well. Not exactly an innovative design by any means, looks like a sheet metal copy and paste. I give it to Tesla for innovative design and thumbs down to Nissan for doing the same old thing based on other worn out designs. Would not be surprised if it is the same Versa-Like platform.

Article said late 2016, so this would not be a 2016 Leaf, but a 2017.

I Like it!
just keep the price reasonable and that would be a done deal for me to buy and skip the lease.
