According to http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/nissan/leaf/88344/nissan-leaf-to-get-sharp-new-look-and-range-boost:

Nissan bosses are promising new battery technology is on the way, with better energy density for a more usable pure electric vehicle. A figure of about 186 miles is likely to be the target.

Cool pics there too... it looks like the bubble headlights are gone making my 2011 a collectors item. ;)

It's possible this could debut in the UK before the US... The 2017 MY can technically be anywhere from Jan 1, 2016 to Dec 31, 2017... And 186 miles mentioned is almost surely based on the Euro cycle which is more liberal than ours and gives higher numbers (much like the LA-4 cycle)...

Not digging the look, but it is only a concept and vapourware at this point. I plan on replacing the Leaf with a Tesla anyways, so my vote doesn't count...

I wonder where they moved the charge ports. It'd be super awkward to plug either J1772 or CHAdeMO into the nose judging by the angle of the fake grill. Unless those meetings with Tesla were more serious than we all thought?

Otherwise, I like it. Looks like they're copying the new Mazda3 hatchback somewhat, which I think is one of the best looking small cars out right now.

Clearly an informed writer based on this confusing quote"

"There’s a good chance Nissan will offer smaller battery packs with less range, like Tesla does with its 60kWh and 85kWh packs. The new battery technology and motor will be shared with Nissan’s luxury brand, Infiniti, too."

So Tesla offers "smaller" 60 and 85kwh packs and Infinity EVs are on the way

Copy of the Mazda and parts of the ugly Infinity SUV. A little CRX as well. Not exactly an innovative design by any means, looks like a sheet metal copy and paste. I give it to Tesla for innovative design and thumbs down to Nissan for doing the same old thing based on other worn out designs. Would not be surprised if it is the same Versa-Like platform.

This would be wonderful! A true game changer!
EPA range would be less, however I would guess somewhere between 120-150 miles.
Could very well be our second car.

If the intent is to make the driver virtually blind to the rear and rear corners without using cameras, that design concept appears to achieve its purpose.

As for Tesla's innovative design, I disagree. It's a nice, but entirely conventional and not particularly distinctive design. It incorporates many styling elements previously used by Maserati, Jaguar, Audi, Lexus etc., and even the new Mazda 6 resembles it. I remember watching a White Model S facing me and waiting to make a left turn. As it did so I saw that there was another white S right behind it, certainly a first for me. Or so I thought, until the second S made the turn so that I could see the four interlocked rings on the rear face of the trunk.

The most distinctive part of the Model S's looks is the wide shelves or 'hips' on the rear fenders, and it's the least attractive aspect of the design to me - makes the car look like it has love handles.

I like the look, but why the grill?
I know… Grilles, scoops… How much air intake does an EV need? I was hoping for something more aero. Bigger battery is fine, but no sense wasting it.

Each to his own. I think it's blah/boring/ugly, not distinctive, like the present design. It looks similar to just about every other car of that size...doesn't stand out at all. I love the old "bubble" headlights and unique tail lights on the present model. :(

Take a good look at most new ICE cars and a lot of them have false grills. I wouldn't be surprised if the next leaf has a charge port that looks like a grill, not flush as it is now.

Personally I think the charge port is ugly. If you used a fake grill then you could hide the edges of where the door opens easily.

Given the reference to the Mazda3 here, I remind folks of http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13350" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

The article sounds like it is long on speculation, no new information here.
Yep. Who knows if this is based on any reputable information or if its all vaporware, speculation and/or wishful thinking.

186 in the UK might be a little higher than EPA rated in the USA.
Still great news :)
Remember, the current Leaf is a "200 km" (124 mile) car in Europe...
