Infiniti will launch an electric vehicle, according to boss Roland Krueger

Sat Jan 14, 2017 9:16 am

No details of when or what, but the report is from the highest source:

Infiniti to launch performance EV with Nissan tech by 2020

...Infiniti will launch an electric vehicle in the next three years, according to boss Roland Krueger.

He said he had already driven an early prototype, describing it as "very good".

Krueger added that it was important that an electric vehicle maintained Infiniti's values of performance and handling - a forte of its hybrid offerings, he said. "We want it to have a unique Infiniti driving experience."

While Krueger wouldn't divulge what it's first electric car would be, he admitted it would be a new platform suggesting it will be a standalone model rather than a derivative of an existing model...

What I'd like is to see is a competitor in the new BESUV vehicle class, which will be created by Jaguar next year:

And, for the new Infiniti, like the Jag, i'd hope the Sport in SUV is not a joke, as it is for virtually all ICEV Suvs.

Wouldn't mind if the new Infiniti was priced a bit lower than the Jag, either...

Is this any thing like Audi, haven't they been saying this kind of stuff for years?

But it's a Nissan, and likely the concept preview for the next gen Altima.

That's a large sedan.

Only ~4.5" shorter and ~3'' narrower than a Tesla S.

Sounds like the prototype is ~on schedule.

Good news, that it sounds like Nissan isn't going to try to extend the ancient 2011 LEAF platform any further, beyond the LEAF-based SUV due ~next year.

Wonder if Nissan will launch a larger BEV using this Infiniti platform, in 2019 or later?

Infiniti to reveal electric performance model in January

Design boss Alfonsa Albaisa confirms Infiniti's first electric car will be shown at Detroit motor show;

Infiniti will launch a standalone electric model in 2019, which will be shown in concept form at next year’s Detroit motor show.

Design boss Alfonsa Albaisa confirmed the electric model would not be a derivative of an existing model and would instead be an all-new vehicle...

Albaisa also confirmed the electric car would be on a new platform, rather than sharing a platform with the Nissan Leaf, its parent company’s electric offering.

Earlier this year, Infiniti boss Roland Krueger told Autocar an electric model was coming and that he had already driven an early prototype...

Interesting. If this can go 250 miles, had four doors and could comfortably seat four adults, this may be my next car (which is going to be a BEV). Pay a bit more to avoid Tesla's business model that lacks the Right to Repairs.

I don't mind two doors if that is the only constraint (and the lack of SCN, that I'm not too worried about if this can go 250 miles between charging):

Looking at the images, it seems it will be a two-seater. :(

That's a concept from way back in 2012:

...The Infiniti Emerg-E is a concept sports car developed by the Infiniti division of Nissan Motors and was unveiled to the public at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show...

Far more likely, IMO, to be in the Audi/Jaguar/Tesla Y (?) BEV class, five-door five-seat crossovers.

Will this be a real infiniti or a rebadged leaf, like when lexus put a plate on the prius? It won't be easy selling an EV at the Tesla price point, though I am sure there are some people who will never buy a tesla if there isn't a dealership near by.

Yeah, I noticed it won the concept award in 2012.

Even better with a BEV so I can sell our damn RAV4 Hybrid and stick with two vehicles instead of three. :)

Tesla Right to Repairs? Please elaborate. What is this and why is it "bad" enough to not consider a Tesla EV?
