http://insideevs.com/nissan-leaf-debuts-september-5th-830-pm-et-530-pt-watch-live/

Eastern Time USA – September 5th – 8:30 PM
Pacific Time USA – September 5th – 5:30 PM
Europe (UK) – September 6th – 1:30 AM
Europe (Germany) – September 6th – 2:30 AM

Insideevs still keeps talking about 60 kWh option, though.

In addition, a larger battery option is also expected (~60 kWh), pushing the new LEAF’s total range past 200 miles, making it a more direct competitor to the Chevrolet Bolt EV (Opel Ampera-e) and new Tesla Model 3.

Anyone going the the Nissan dinner and drinks event in the bay area with the new LEAF showing?

Planning to attend, on the 14th.

Anyone know:

Has it been absolutely confirmed we will get a close-up look at a Gen two there?

Can we get an October test-drive reservation then, or only at the PIA event at De Anza on the 16th?

Back to tonight...

Anyone heard rumors of whether efficiency and range data will be announced?

That's actually of more interest to me than the pack capacity(s).

My understanding is that a car will be there to see in full. A bit pointless if not.

I'll probably be watching it live. The timing works well for me, since I put my kids to bed at 8, and it starts at 8:30 EDT.

Biggest questions for me are range and QC speed. I need my next EV to be at least a regional car, which relies on both of those things. If it's just a better commuter, it does nothing for me.

That web page (as observed at 2017-09-06 00:08 GMT) says the premier is at 1:25 GMT, which would be 2017-09-05 6:25 PM PDT.

Only 1800 people have joined the streaming session on YouTube - pretty disappointing...

Not exactly in the same ballpark as the Tesla M3 announcement, to say the least!

I couldn't get YouTube to offer me the stream on my TiVO, so I'm watching it on the PC. So far it sucks. Translator struggling with English translation, and now I've been told that the "Leaf is NOT an EV!" by what appears to be a parody gameshow host...

Now I've been told that the car will have a 'powerful 6kw charger which will be offered as an option.' I think I've had all the excitement I can take for now. I do like both the Red and Blue colors, anyway. And I'll definitely want Pro Park.

I missed the early part - was there anything about 60 kwh option at all ?

The last part sounded like its not coming to US immediately ?

Nissan CEO threw in that last statement saying a "high-powered longer range" version will be released in FY18. According to their fiscal calendar this means it would be end of March 2018. Curious to see what these specifications would be.

Pretty underwhelming...

  • 40 kWh pack was expected, so no surprise there
  • A range of 400 km sounds optimistic, likely more like 375 km (235 miles) EPA
  • Styling is nice, like the wider stance - no complaints from me
  • No idea why they didn't show the interior in detail, big mistake!
  • I personally could not care less about the ProPilot stuff, I like parking :D
  • e-Pedal sounds great, biggest new feature for me
  • 110 kWh, 40 kWh battery, 6.6 kW charger - meh!
  • No discussion at all markets outside of Japan - do they even care?

Euro announcement, includes all specs.

...The new Nissan LEAF will be on sale in Europe from January 2018....

2017 Nissan LEAF specifications (European model)

Specifications pending final homologation..

0.28 CD

3384 lb curb weight

Now USA announcement with specs up:

...Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have been added to the infotainment system in cars equipped with the navigation system....

Can't really get excited about this new Leaf. It looks nicer, but it's essentially the same car with a bigger battery pack. It's going to compete on price only with other EVs, which I think is a real problem for Nissan. It won't take long for other manufacturers to match the range of the new Leaf and, despite the mention of Tesla in the presentation, this car is NOT an M3 or Bolt killer.

Too little, too late from Nissan - I was hoping for better, given the fact that they were first to market with a production EV that could function as a family car.
