Re: Please Report 2018 Leaf Defects Here

The Emergency Braking system in our one month old 2018 Leaf S started malfunctioning right after purchase. At first it would just present a warning (System Malfunction - See Owner's Manual) that the system had turned off. I ignored it at first, but when the system started braking, sometimes severely, for no apparent reason, I took it into the Nissan dealer. It's been in the shop for 5 days. Just yesterday, the dealership Leaf specialist was able to replicate the issue and is now consulting with Nissan technicians to fix the issue. I suspect it may be a malfunctioning radar sensor since I have seen on two occasions a message saying Radar Sensor Blocked. After reading some of the other posts in this topic, I remembered that the cruise would stop working after the EBS warning and turn off. As far as I know, there seems to be no way to turn off the EB system, permanently. It always restarts once the car is restarted. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? I will update when the problem is solved.

I will add the build date and additional identifying info after I get the car back.

Just had mine looked at the dealer for the front end clunk. They were able to easily duplicate the problem and confirmed it needed the new torque spec TSB done. Had to order new axle nut to do that so it'll be next week before I know if it fixes the issue. The service adviser did say it should be a one time fix and not a frequent recurrence

The yellow exclamation light came on my parent's 2018 SV, and when they took it to the dealer they said it is a faulty brake controller that needs replaced. Unfortunately, the part is backordered and there is no ETA. The dealer is not letting them drive the car since it is a problem with the braking system, and it could be 2 weeks or 2 months until it is back in stock. Having a Nissan Versa rental is definitely a way of appreciating your Leaf more! Anyone else have brake controller issues on an '18?

I was going to take mine in to get the Emergency Braking System fixed but it somehow fixed itself and I have not gotten any errors in over a month or 2 now and the cruise control is working perfectly.

Update
After replicating the random heavy braking issue, the dealership Leaf specialist consulted with Nissan technicians because there were no codes to indicate a problem. The technicians told him that this is only the second car that has displayed the random slamming on of the brakes. He replaced the radar sensor and, after a week, all seems to be working fine. No more warnings that the AEB system has shut off and no more random braking issues. It was in the shop for two weeks and the mechanic put 80 miles on the car during that time. He said after he experienced the random full brake application, Nissan technicians told him to not release the car until it had been fixed and fully tested.

Just listening to a new podcast for me and the guy mentions this problem with his car (I think he's in Spain?). He starts talking about it at the 8:30 minute mark. https://ev20q.com/electric-car-charging-in-france/

2018 SV. Build date 3/18. Yellow warning on dash, Yellow triangle, auto brake warning icon. I drive with e-pedal and eco on and in B mode. The brakes applied heavily but that could have just been the settings.
Drove over 500 miles with no issues. Went to the car wash the day before it started acting up. Light comes on every time I drive it now. Either when I start it or during the first 5 minutes of driving. Will be taking it to the dealer tomorrow.

Have all of the E Braking warning lights correlated with the car being washed first, I wonder...?
