2018 LEAF Model S speedometer is off by approx 6%. I.e. when the speedometer says 50 MPH you are only going 47 MPH. The dealership says this is how all Models S behave.

Speedometer error has been discussed many times here. What you describe doesn't sound like a defect.

If the 2018 S has 16" wheels, then going to 17" wheels will lower the error to about a consistent 2MPH on the high side. That's what I've gotten with both my 2013 and 2018 Leafs, as verified by radar. 2MPH high seems to be the industry norm.

A speedometer that is off by 6% is a design defect. I know it has been discussed elsewhere. I thought the purpose of this thread is to accumulate the 2018 LEAF defects regardless of whether the detect is a result in design or in manufacturing and regardless of whether it has been discussed elsewhere.

If yours is off by an actual 6% then I'd agree that your car has a defective speedo.

I was just running tire calculator for smaller size snows and the 16" wheels/tires used on S trim were off by several percents compared to the 17" setup on an SV. Could be causing some of the difference.

In unrelated defects note- apparently 2018s have the same exact issue with rain water accumulating in the driver's side strut tower cap as the earlier models. Mine has a nice splashy pool there , soaking the strut nut in it till evaporation takes care of it. Up to 2017 model year they had a rubber cap there, which apparently was not enough either but now it's just wide open. They may have switched the nut to stainless steel for this gen, but I still question why would you want standing water anywhere.

By sheer co-incidence, I just checked my 2017 this morning and there is no rubber cap there. The strut mount nuts were clean and dry but I do see how water could accumulate there in wetter climates. If you're concerned about it I'd suggest putting some sort of plastic fabric over the top and sealing it with a zip-tie or rubber o-ring or something.

It literally takes one medium strength rain to get a puddle down there- not sure what Nissan was thinking..
