Can someone with more experience give me some insight into these Leaf S choices?

2013 39K $9,750

2013 42K $9,000

2014 34K $10,500

2014 36K $10,250

2014 43K $10,000

2015 9K $12,500

Here is my understanding of Leaf years so far - I may be wrong!

2014 model year means that the Leaf would have been manufactured after April 2013 so it would have the better battery system.

2013 or later means a heater that at least has a separate blower so you can turn off the heater and run the blower.

Do the 2014 or the 2015 have the heat pump type heater? (Not sure if correct term)

Of the above, are the ones with mileage close to 36K a risk because the chance of getting a free defective battery replacement is over? I guess I should add - not knowing anything else about their battery as in no Leaf Spy testing?

Since these are "S" models, they will just have a 3.3kWh charger unless it was an added option. Correct?

Are these prices high?. Maybe it is the market here.

Thanks!

1. yes
2. yes
3. Only '13 and beyond, and non S-models will have the heatpump heater.
4. The battery capacity warranty is 5 year 60k miles.
5. Correct, and in the case of '13 model year, without the charger package it won't come with the backup camera, after '13 all Leafs had cameras.
6. If they have the charger package they would only be a little high, without the charger package IMO they are quite overpriced.

For example, my brother just got a '13S w/charger package and 30k miles for $8k, ones without the charger package were priced ~$7-$7.5k and lower miles. Of course it is what it is, my area seems to be higher than other areas like CA where Leafs are more popular. Other than the expense of having one trucked to your area your kind of stuck with your market prices, it's not like you can fly to CA and drive a Leaf home

I read that it is possible to tell if an "S" has the charger package by the headlights. If the car has LED headlights, it has the fast charger package and that also means it has the 6.6kWh charger. http://insideevs.com/used-nissan-leaf-buying-guide/

Is that correct?

NO

None of the 2013 and later S models were available with LED headlights. I believe the QC port was available on some 2013 or later SV models as part of a package that included LED headlights. All 2013 and later SV and SL models have 6 kW onboard chargers. All 2013 and later SL models have the QC port. The only way to be sure that an S has the charge package or an SV has QC is to look at the charging ports. The L1 and L2 (J1772) port is on the driver side under the flip up door. There is a larger port on the passenger side if the car has QC. Both ports have flip up covers to keep water and debris out of the connectors when charging cables are not plugged in. I have attached photos of my 2015 SL while charging on L2 which show the QC port on the left side of the pictures (passenger side of car).image.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg

As mentioned for the S model(at least '13 and '14) you cannot get the LED headlights and no, other than actually looking under the charge port door you cannot tell if a S model has the charge package.
Well I guess there would be a way on a '13S to tell from the outside......if you could see the little backup camera right above where you lift the rear hatch, if you see a camera on a '13 it also has the QC and charger package. Note by '14 the camera was standard on all trim model Leafs, even ones without the charger package.
Note there is a recent thread on MNL that has a link to a site, that when you input the vehicles VIN number it will give you the vehicles original window sticker, which would show if it had the charger option(QC port and potential double speed L2 charging).

6.6kWh charger. http://insideevs.com/used-nissan-leaf-buying-guide/
Charging rate and max rate of the on-board charger is in kW, not kWh.

kW and kWh are very different metrics. It's the same as confusing gallons with horsepower. Think of kW = horsepower, kWh = gallons.

If one charges at 1 kW (or 1000 watts) for 6 hours, 6 kWh came out of the wall. If it's at 6 kW for 1 hour, it's also 6 kWh. If it's 1 watt for 6000 hours, it's also 6 kWh.

One pays for electricity at home in cents per kWh. There are a few utilities w/residential plans where they not only bill per kWh but also have demand charges, but that's rare and complicates calculations. (Demand charges aren't unusual on many commercial plans.)

(BTW, 1 hp = ~0.746 kW. And, many .gov sites say 1 gallon of gasoline=33.7 kWh.)

Agree. OP should see https://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/cta?sort=priceasc&auto_make_model=nissan%20leaf&max_auto_year=2014&min_auto_year=2013 for context.

IF OP is shopping at Nissan franchise dealers, that's likely they're problem. They tend to have high markups.

As I posted at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=430825#p430825, I bought a used '13 SV w/premium package in July 2015 w/under 24K miles for $9,325 + tax and license. There were still ~11 months left on the basic 3 year/36K warranty.

Thanks jjeff, GerryAZ, cwerdna, for the very helpful information!

Thanks cwerdna for the explanation of kW versus kWh; nice analogy.

From what I'm seeing around here in private market as opposed to dealerships, the cost for this car here now would be about $1,000 higher!
