SL with cloth seats and steel wheels?

Thu Jun 15, 2017 12:36 pm

Hello, I don't have a Leaf yet, but am considering one. With only a 12 mile round trip commute and an ICE car for road trips, I think it would work well for my family.

A local used car dealer has 4 Leafs (Leaves?) posted on AutoTrader. They are all listed as 2015 models with the SL trim level, but the photos don't seem to show what I think are supposed to be standard SL features like alloy wheels and leather seats.

Here's one of them: http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale ... =459586986

The VIN for that car is 1N4AZ0CP5FC323038, which if you plug in at https://www.decodethis.com comes back showing SL trim level.

Any ideas on what's going on here? If it is actually an SL, is it missing any other "standard" options? I'd prefer a Leaf with the heat pump, but maybe with my short commute I shouldn't worry about it so much.

The photo is of a S model, but description including Cruise and Alloy Wheels aren't on a S model. Also all SL models will have the little solar panel on the rear spoiler as well as Leather(post '12 SLs that is).
My guess?? is the photos are wrong but the description is correct. Seems to happen all the time, in my market also. They copy and paste things together and the person doing it hasn't a clue :?
If you want leather you'll need to get a '13 or later SL, with your mileage requirements basically any Leaf should work, even ones heavily discounted due to bars missing from the battery health. As you may know, the heatpump only came out in '13 and later but not on the S models.

This would be easier to believe if they didn't do it for all the Leafs they have listed.

Do VIN decoders pull Leaf information properly? Maybe they just plugged in some VINs and get back some bad information. I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt here, but maybe they don't deserve it.

To the OP, use this link instead:

http://cpo.nissanusa.com/nna/?1N4AZ0CP5FC323038

That's the original sales sticker for the one you looked at - it's an S (has charge package) and NOT an SL

You can use the above link for most Leafs by simply appending the VIN to this "base" URL:

cpo.nissanusa.com/nna/?

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work for all Leafs.

The Quest Auto Sales dealership in Omaha hasn't got a clue...

I found 4 listing for them:

http://www.questautosales.com

According to the original sales stickers, those are all actually S models and NOT SLs

This is a very help and cool feature. Thank you!

It seems like generic VIN decoders just don't work well for Leafs and that is probably the source of this dealer's issues. I'll have to scrutinize photos rather than depend on listings. It's too bad Nissan decided not to include trim level badging anywhere on the car.

If you only have a 12 mile round trip, look for an S.... You don't need any telematics or GPS. I have an S, and I really don't see the need to spend $13K+ for a used Leaf. I have seen nice S '15s with only 14K miles for around $10k...

Remember what you save from NOT overpaying for the "premium" trim car (which depreciates immediately) you can save for "if and when" you need to replace the battery. I LOVE my S, which I bought new. I saved over $5,000 by not buying an SL. Soo.... I already have the money for when my Leaf needs another battery!!
