I am in need of a second car, and I'd like to buy a Leaf. I've read some of the forums, and have a newbie's impression of what to look for, but still am in need of some advice. I live in the south, where it's regularly mid-90s this time of year. I don't have a garage. My commute is about 22 miles round trip, however there is charging available at my work (ChargePoint Level 2, at $0.75/hour). I have a 2008 prius, so long range isn't that critical. It seems that a late year 2013 would be the cheapest best bet, but I'm wondering given the heat in this area if it makes more sense to lean towards a 2015 with the lizard battery. Any thoughts?

Have a look at this post for concise answers on most of your questions:

Get a Leaf with the charging package for double the speed L2 charging (3.6kw vs 6.6 kw) and the option to L3 charge using CHADEMO port. For the relatively small premium you pay, I think a 2013 SV + QC is the best bet. Although dated, the NAV screen is still nice to have. My 2 cents, I'm sure others will disagree and say buy an S for the best value.

I don't think there's compelling evidence that Lizard packs fair any better than post March 2013 packs. Jury is still out on that...

The biggest issue is battery durability in hot weather. Don't buy a Leaf built before April of 2013 (build sticker is in the driver's side door jamb) and if you do find a 2015 with no capacity bars lost, give it preference.
