My 2015 Leaf started a clicking noise when I was at a stop and put foot on the speed pedal. I also heard it after releasing the pedal. I thought I would not be covered under warranty as I have 41k miles on a car I have owned new for 2.5 years.
But I checked this site and saw it could be covered under the 6 yr/60k drive-train warranty.
I called Nissan Customer Service to confirm re having my car greased that it would be covered. They would not confirm so I took to my local dealer.
Dealer would not confirm until they looked at it. If i decided not to fix it, then $150 inspection fee, otherwise if not covered under warranty that price will be included.
I got a call from my service advisor who said I need a new front axle and that it would be covered under warranty. I would have to bring car back as they had to order the part. I was told if I just had it greased, it would NOT be covered under warranty and have to pay about $250.
I guess I should not look at a gift horse in the mouth or however the saying goes. Funny thing, I picked up the car expecting to return the next day for the axle install and my car NO longer had the clicking noise. I guess they greased ti anyway! I could call them to say no longer noise but I know they will want me to pay the $150 diagnosis fee.
FYI for all of you out there.

I have a 2014 Leaf S with 42,000 miles that just had NTB 12-055 done to fix the noise issue. Dealer said not covered by the powertrain warranty. They charged me 79.43 for a 1/2 hour of labor. They said it fell under the "adjustments" warranty category and that expires after 12,000 miles.

I'll do this myself if it happens again. Would anyone have a copy of the Service bulletin by chance?

Thanks!

As a follow up, I just spoke to a Nissan rep (Chris) by calling the 1-800-NOGASEV number. He said Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) are not necessarily covered under warranty. It seems this is the case with NTB 12-055 if your 3 year basic coverage is expired.

If I have the problem again, I'll do it myself and post a You-tube video of it.

Passing it along!

does anyone have access to look what needs to be greased? I have some clunky/clicky noises that seem to be getting worse as the miles rack up but are not severe enough to warrant digging in. Just trying to prepare for the inevitable.

cheers
Marko

FWIW, I found this description in another thread:

Removed axels from hub assy, removed corrosion and applied molycote grease to mating surface on both sides. Reassembled with new axle nuts, cotter pins and washers. Torqued axle nut to 92 ft lbs. Could not hear same noise after.

My 2014 started doing this. A single "tick" when coming to a stop and another single "tick" when the accelerator is pressed. Nissan replaced the traction motor, which fixed it for about nine months, but the sound is back so back to the dealer it goes.

LEAF TSBs can usually be found under http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/Knowledgebase/links/651/.
