### Charging a MK1 Leaf

Ok I tried to search but could not find a straight or either contradicting answers. Or maybe it’s me. I need a final answer from users here! I’m thinking of buying a leaf 30 kWh with a (standard?) 3.3 kWh onboard charger. How long does it take to charge on a fast (not rapid) 7kwh charger?

### Re: Charging a MK1 Leaf

the longest charge time estimates are for when the battery is completely empty, charging to completely full. Often the battery never gets totally flat so that's not really useful information. The charge time is only going to be as long as is needed to get from the existing charge level to full or 80%. Your engineering units need work, the chargers are rated in power (KW) not energy (KWH). The answer to your question is just to divide the energy by the power, and you get the time. For example my commute is 30 miles, the economy is 3.8m/kwh, (30 miles / 3.8m/kwh = 7.8kwh consumed.) To replace the 7.8kwh in the battery, and to get it back to its previous charge level divide that energy by the power of the charger (7.8kwh/3.3kw = 2.4 hours.) Substitute in your numbers as you like.

Ripple4 is correct on the units. OP is not.

OP, please see https://www.clippercreek.com/three-thin ... arge-time/ and the diagram by planet4ever at https://web.archive.org/web/20150619074 ... p?p=262630. Yes, for level 1 and 2 AC charging, the charger is on-board the car. The external unit is NOT a charger, it's an EVSE.

Also, I'm guessing you aren't from the US. We don't use goofy terminology to talk about any charging rates below 10 kW as "fast". Generally, we only refer to CHAdeMO, CCS (SAE Combo aka Combo1, or Combo2 on Europe) or Tesla Superchargers as DC fast charging.

Nissan in the US manuals talks about trickle charging (12 amps at 120 volts), "normal" charging (240 volts from 16 to ~30 amps) and and quick charging (CHAdeMO). See https://imgur.com/a/4EZUR7w. We'd call trickle, level 1 and "normal" charging level 2. See https://web.archive.org/web/20121008175 ... speeds.pdf.
