Has anyone tried to claim EVSE credit for 2016?

I'm trying to, but Turbotax is telling me my AMT income is too high.

There is a calculation of possible AMT for the EVSE credit that can eliminate the credit if you are already taking the $7500 credit on the LEAF. This caught me in 2011 and I noticed the same calculation was still in the instructions for 2015. I purchased a Clipper Creek EVSE as a second unit last year so will be filing for the credit soon using TT.

Does H&R Block deluxe software includes Form 8911?

Just tried and ran into the fine print of the tax code. If you are taking the $7500 tax credit on a new EV purchase in 2016, that will wipe out the tax credit on the EVSE. The instructions for the IRS forms are clear on this when you step through it. Someone leasing or purchasing used would have an advantage here.

I went with an OpenEVSE kit anyway, so it's not a big deal. However, it does go to show that these tax incentives always have some fine print.

No word yet on whether the EVSE tax credit will be extended for 2017.
