"Infiniti Teases Its Most Advanced Car Ever"

Nissan's Carwings telematics was touted as groundbreaking technology. This was the one that had limited functionality and allowed you to speak fewer words than systems many years older and even less than their own ICE counterparts. "Most advanced" is a very relative term for Nissan, believing blending friction brakes with regen is high tech vs using more regen so slow the car to a complete stop. You can take an EV to almost a complete stop without friction blending. It's not like they are trying but they simply are too conservative in product development and too liberal with marketing speak. However, perhaps the pack has active cooling making it groundbreaking. Pricing should be interesting with a different pack size.

New INFINITI concept car will make world debut at Detroit

Hong Kong – INFINITI will debut a new concept car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2018.

The concept previews a new generation of INFINITI vehicles and represents the first manifestation of INFINITI's new form language.

"As a new wave of technologies begins to take shape, our Detroit concept car heralds a new generation of INFINITI. A seamless and stunning new design philosophy demonstrating INFINITI artistry in the new age of autonomy and breakthrough drivetrains. In Detroit, shown alongside Prototype 9, INFINITI aims to showcase a new elegance, one that strikes harmony and simplicity in a complex world."

Infiniti prepares electric concept for Detroit motor show

Preview image suggests the car is a sports saloon; autonomy and electric powertrains are hinted at

...The concept’s name has not yet been revealed, but design boss Alfonso Albaisa previously confirmed to Autocar that the car will be a pure electric model in its own right, rather than an electric variant of an existing car...

Infiniti Bringing Sedan Concept to NAIAS; Could Reveal Radical Shift in Dimensions

Design will mark “shift toward smarter, more compact and less intrusive powertrains”

Is this Infiniti’s answer to the Jaguar I-Pace?

Rumors have been circulating for some time that the Japanese automaker was preparing something special for the North American International Auto Show, possibly a long-awaited replacement for its long-gone Q45 flagship sedan. And that is clearly one of the possibilities that could be in store when it gives us a look at the rest of the snow-white concept vehicle teased in this front-end close-up. But wherever it might fit in the line-up, the show car isn’t going to be just another four-door.

“The new Infiniti concept car will take the traditional sedan architecture to its next stage of evolution,” suggests Karim Habib, the luxury brand’s executive design director. And key to that is adapting to, “A shift toward smarter, more compact and less intrusive powertrains.”

If that triggers a sense of déjà vu, Jaguar designed the I-Pace specifically to work around a battery-electric drivetrain. Since most of the key hardware, including motors and batteries, were in or under the load floor, that meant the British marque’s designers and engineers could recapture much of the space normally devoted to the engine compartment for passengers and cargo. The results? A nearly full-size interior in an SUV with a compact footprint.

Infiniti has been hinting that it is working on an all-electric model – which just might share its platform with the battery-drive SUV the sibling Nissan brand is working up. The new, and carefully worded, statement from Infiniti seems to preclude the idea that the Detroit Auto Show concept will be exclusively electric, unlike the I-Pace. But it appears likely it will be steering clear of the large six- and eight-cylinder gas engines that traditionally defined luxury. Instead, we’d be willing to bet it was conceived to use one or more downsized alternatives that could include:

· An all-electric, hybrid or plug-in drivetrain;
· A turbo-four like the 2.0-liter package in the Q50 and Q60 models; and
· Even more likely, the new VC-T, or Variable Compression-Turbo set to go into production next year....

Infinity is a terrible brand. For those that think Teslas are going to be expensive to repair expect big changes on the the way as a result of the 3 and a new channel of repair and support.

Will labor and part costs come down? What about the lack of Right to Repair, how does that help people whose cars no longer have warranty and are required to have Tesla fix each and every issue that may affect driveability at a significant dollar amount?

Tesla, like all OEMs, have to obey all laws including Right to Repair laws.

Many OEMs that sell unique or rare construction automobiles require shops to have company training and/or company authorized tools in order to fix or repair certain aspects of their cars. And they will only sell certain parts to these certified shops.

So far no word on it since it was brought up earlier this year. It's not even being discussed on TeslaMotorClub forum with the fanfare of non-employees getting the model configuration notification.

I think it's only in the State of Massachusetts that Tesla had to open up its repair manual but I was told on TMC that Tesla took some tool away from consumers.

Anyway, I'm not pulling the trigger on a Tesla until there's more clarity on that matter and if Tesla bides its time, I'm sure there will be other BEVs that I will be interested in that can go 250-270 miles between charging by then. I'm but one Tesla reservation holder but I'm not the dumb one. :)

INFINITI hints at future design with Q Inspiration Concept

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – INFINITI has released the first image of its new Q Inspiration Concept ahead of its debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Representing the next step in INFINITI design, the exterior of Q Inspiration features clear and concise lines and eschews classical sedan forms with its elongated silhouette. It is the first manifestation of INFINITI's new form language for an era of advanced powertrains and presents a design vision for vehicles in this segment.

"We aim to take traditional sedan architecture to its next stage of evolution. The Q Inspiration offers an alternative form; something more flowing in appearance and muscular in stance, with an unusually long and balanced cabin. Experimenting with new proportions in an established segment with the arrival of smarter, compact powertrains, the Q Inspiration features a shorter hood and elongated body, with all the benefits to interior wellbeing, comfort and space that this layout entails."

Karim Habib, INFINITI Executive Design Director

The INFINITI Q Inspiration Concept will be revealed in Detroit on 15 January, 2018 at 12:35 EST. Full media information will be available from http://www.InfinitiPressPacks.com

Another EV that won't make production as seen. Seems they are past due on a production car not a concept.

New Infiniti Q Inspiration Sedan Concept Shows Its Face

Infiniti is bringing a new concept called Q Inspiration at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The company’s latest concept will have the form of a flagship sedan, adopting a more four-door coupe-like shape with revised proportions. The hood will be shorter, with the cabin being longer and featuring big chunks of glass to make it feel like a proper premium lounge for passengers.

We still don’t know what kind of powertrain Infiniti is going to use in the Q Inspiration concept but expect to see a version of the new variable compression engine that debuted with the 2019 QX50, or even an electrified powertrain.

More importantly the upcoming Q Inspiration will give us an early taste of what the company is planning to do design-wise with its upcoming models, adopting more flowing lines and more imposing, muscular shapes.

The new Infiniti Q Inspiration is set to debut at the Detroit Auto Show on January 15, so stay tuned.

Post has been updated with a new image showing the front end of Infiniti's sports sedan study. No new information has been released at this time...

I just can't get very excited about a slightly less inefficient ICE.

Another disappointment from Infiniti.

INFINITI to go electric from 2021

New INFINITI models will offer electrified powertrains from 2021

2018/01/16

DETROIT – INFINITI Motor Company will introduce new vehicles with electrified powertrains from 2021, said Nissan Chief Executive Officer Hiroto Saikawa at the Automotive News World Congress today.

Customers can expect beautifully designed vehicles like the Q Inspiration concept shown in Detroit, with a whole new level of electrified driving performance as an evolution of INFINITI's current powertrains.

INFINITI will offer a mix of pure electric vehicles (EV) and e-POWER vehicles – demonstrating the full range of low-emission vehicle technology available to INFINITI as the premium brand of Nissan Motor Company.

INFINITI's proprietary e-POWER technology features a small gasoline engine that charges a high-output battery, eliminating the need for an external charging source and providing the convenience of refueling with gasoline while offering the same driving experience as a pure EV.

As a result of this emphasis on low-emission technology, INFINITI expects more than half its global sales to be comprised of electric vehicles by 2025.

Not terribly interested in how prototypes look. It's like a dating website with a heavily photo shopped picture.

This would compete with a model S tesla, so Nissan will have to bring their a-game to do it. That will mean not only the first infiniti ev but also the fastest infiniti ever, at the same time.

2021 ?

That would be like 10 years after they first talked about an EV.
Before Tesla that was a fairly common pace for car companies. Talk talk talk, slow iteration, tiny evolution. In this same ten year period tesla has gone from no cars to four, one of which is the fastest sedan ever, another the fastest SUV ever, all of which are the first truly decent ranged EVs ever, and they have more cars on the road with half decent autonomous features than any other brand.

Hopefully, a ~99%-electric-miles option, using a 20 to 40 available kWh pack with DC charge capability will be offered for the e-Power version.

INFINITI'S NEW EV PLATFORM IS READY FOR PRODUCTION

Underpinning works with full-electric and hybrid powertrains
APRIL 30, 2018

For months, engineers in Japan labored in near secrecy to develop a platform that could take Infiniti into a bold new future.

When they unveiled the prototype last summer to Nissan Motor Co. CEO Hiroto Saikawa, he couldn't stop doing laps around the test track at Nissan's Atsugi technical center.

"He was very enthusiastic," Infiniti President Roland Krueger recalled.

Less than a year later, Nissan's luxury brand says the new architecture will underpin its entire lineup when Infiniti shifts to exclusively electrified powertrains in 2021.

Announcing the platform ahead of last week's Beijing auto show, Krueger said it will be unique to Infiniti and will share only select components with the mass-market Nissan marque...

The platform will be designed to house either of two powertrains that will drive all newly redesigned Infiniti vehicles from 2021: a full electric, battery-driven motor, or Nissan's e-Power range-extender hybrid setup...

Maximum output of the new powertrains should be equivalent up to 400 hp, and range should be at least 311 miles for the full electric variants, Krueger added.

Engineers are debating the EV-only driving range of the e-Power versions...

It will accommodate the variable compression engine and electric motor in the front compartment and another electric motor in the back for all-wheel drive, said Francois Bancon, who leads Infiniti's connectivity and autonomous driving development.

A third motor can be added for more performance, he said...
