Are dealers willing to negotiate on 2018 Leaf in CA?

We're looking at trading in our 2013 for a 2018 Leaf. The 10 State and Fed credit plus a 3k PGE rebate makes the leaf under $20k at the moment.

Probably yes given that we're near the end of the '18 model year.

Keep in there are some eligibility requirements for the CVRP now (https://cleanvehiclerebate.org/eng/eligibility-guidelines), such as an income cap. I make too much to qualify.

The $3K PG&E $ may not be that great a deal given the verbiage at http://www.pgecurrents.com/2018/04/24/pge-customers-can-save-3000-on-new-nissan-leaf-electric-vehicle/.

The discount is taken off the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the purchase or finance of a 2018 Nissan Leaf EV and is available through Sept. 30.

Nobody should be paying MSRP on a Leaf in the first place, esp. at this point in the cycle.

As you probably know, Leaf resale value is terrible. You will likely not get much for trade in. You'll probably do a bit better with private party sale. You also might want to try selling it to a couple Nissan dealers or a used car lot or places like Carmax.

So I spoke to PG&E, they said their rebate is separate from what the dealer is willing to discount on top of that. That doesn't help much obviously. But I guess what they means is the dealer can't use that against you IMO.

So the best quote I received today was

36,405 MSRP
-4000 dealer discount
-2000 Nissan discount
-2000 Loyalty discount

Is this a good deal?

=$14,905 net + HOV access

Which trim level is that for, SL? If so, that's a great deal! Looks like the $3k PG&E deal expires at the end of September for PG&E.

If something like this is around at the end of April when our lease is up we might consider the 40 kWh Leaf.

It's for an SV with the advance and the tech package. I think that's what it's called, basically the two available options.

Unfortunately, both dealers I've talked to offers one or the other. So we can take the 3k PG&E discount out of the equation.

So 28,405 is the sell price, after tax license minus rebate it ends up to be 20,500 - ish for a 36k Leaf. Don't sound too bad.

After 3 years, the residual value should hopefully be more than 12k on a trade in you think?

If past is precedent, then 40 KWh deals will get even sweeter when the 2019 ~60 kWh battery version nears arrival.

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't even know a 60kw model is coming 2019, I have time, might even get sweater deals in December since the PGE discount can't be applied here, so I'm no longer in a hurry.

Battery capacity is measured in kWh, not "kw". We presume it'll be about ~60 kWh given that the slide put up by a Nissan corporate marketing guy at an EVent at their Sunnyvale research office said 225+ miles (pointers at http://mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=535846#p535846).

We have no more specifics other than model year 2019. The could mean any time between now and possibly as late as June (unlikely). Or, it could be late.
