Replace 2012 battery or buy 2016 CPO Leaf S

My wife has a 2012 Leaf SL with 6 capacity bars remaining. We got a quote to replace the battery on her Leaf for around $8,000. Lately, it seems like it is more benificial to trade-in (or sell) the 2012 and get $2,700-$5,000 (based on KBB trade-in/private sale). Use that money and put it towards the 2016. That being said, the 2016 is way over priced (KBB has it right around $11,000).

Long story, replace the battery in the 2012 (with 82,500 miles on it) to get a full 5 yr/60K mile warranty OR sell it and buy the 2016 (with 42,000 miles) with its remaining warranty.

The photos wouldn't load. Anyway, find out the build month for the 2016; if early 2016 or earlier, I'd pass - unless you want to play Battery Lottery with a possible bad cell turning up at some point. Also get the capacity bar count, and whether or not it's has the Battery Management System (BMS) update.

This is going to be a very common question in the next two years. Is it worth switching the battery or not?
There are a few variables that only you can prioritize. I have a 2016 S that meets my needs. No quick charge and no 80% charge for example. But I got it for $13k and I expect to get 60,000 before I cannot do my commute round trip on a single charge. At that time I have the same choice.

1- are you happy with your car?
2-are you OK losing some features of the SL trim?
3- if you assume the new battery will get you 100,000 miles that is not bad. I would shop around to dealers within 100 miles for the best price, but may not help.
4- if you assume the 2016 has the 24 pack and you can get the range you need for 100,000 miles on the odometer, almost half of that is been used up. You are paying a higher price for fewer miles to your 6 bar situation. If you are good at shopping and haggling, you may find one in the trim you want for $8-10,000 from a private seller in which case I would say it is a close call.
2016 S bought used in 2017 with 93% SOH 58 Ah 89 Hx for $12,000
Daily commute is 55 miles round trip with a 2,900 foot elevation climb on the way home.
