steering whine in cold weather

Thu Jan 04, 2018 11:55 am

I wonder if others have noticed: The steering wheel really whines when the temp is below 30 or so. Reminds me of the noise a power steering pump makes when it's low on fluid and you're trying to pivot without moving. Have others noticed this noise, or should I have it checked out (or both)?

I have a 2015 Leaf S.

We have a 2015 SV and haven't noticed anything like this. You may want to have it checked out. Is it only in cold weather? :?:

its under warranty, have it checked. i have two Leaf's and neither do this and we have Utah Desert cold here. The steering mechanism is probably not much different to a ICE car.

The electric steering is different 'upstream' from the wheels from most ICE vehicles, but similar to other cars with electric steering.

Only in cold weather. I'll have it checked for sure; thanks for the feedback.
