    Rivian R1T and R1S

I'm not so sure. Check out this overlay of the Tesla SC network with the CCS fast charge network in Southern California. http://rivianauto.club/xf/threads/is-the-ccs-charging-network-good-enough.19/ And Rivian is going to fill in blank spots at remote ourdoor destinations like parks and such.

    EV charging info for newbies

It's all good. I really do appreciate the feedback and will update the site accordingly. At least three people have mistaken the Volt/Bolt adapter page for a generic adapter page, so I've got to do something there!

    EV charging info for newbies

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll update the numbers. As far as the 14 gauge wire thing - AFAIK, the only place I talk about 14 gauge wire is on the Volt/Bolt adapter page which is only used with the 12A/120V EVSE that comes with the car. 12A is the most you can draw through it, so 14 gauge...

    EV charging info for newbies

The menus staying open is a feature not a bug. This way when you navigate the site, the old section you were in is still shown. I had to write special code for that! The combining 120V for 240V is controversial for some people. I point out how to especially not do it. But using relays is...

    EV charging info for newbies

Why, yes I did. When I was 13. And it was that exact issue of Popular Electronics in your picture that turned me onto it. I didn't wirewrap my own (those instructions came from a Popular Electronics article a few months prior), but I instead bought the PCB board kit from Netronics. I did solder...

    EV charging info for newbies

Based on earlier work I did for Tesla charging, I put together a website for all EV charging providing information for people new to the whole EV experience. It's at http://CarCharging.us - let me know if you find any issues/problems. Hopefully it can help people get full use of their EVs.

Zencar 32a adjustable portable L2/L1 EVSE

Yeah, that'll work until someone other than yourself trips on one of the cords, unplugs it from the wall socket, and goes to pick it up... No need to cross connect neutrals (they can be ignored). Heck, even cross connecting grounds isn't a great idea as there could be a slight potential...

Zencar 32a adjustable portable L2/L1 EVSE

Be careful with the combining two 120V to 240V thing. I made a simple 120V combiner myself and discovered that when plugged into my EV, the car completes the circuit on the two 120V legs. That means that once you've finished charging and you go to unplug the first 120V plug, you'll find 120V on...

Do It Yourself: 240v from two 120v sources

I emailed them about the danger of this last week. Haven't heard a reply. I notice they are still selling them. Sigh. I actually bought one of their Juiceboxes just to have a 15 kW EVSE. I'm a sucker for startup companies! Anyways, in hindsight, I can't say I'm too impressed by the Juicebox...

Do It Yourself: 240v from two 120v sources

Well, I initially did do the simple combine the two 120V hots with no relays. I tested it with my Tesla UMC plugged into the car. The car/UMC (which is an EVSE) does indeed complete the circuit and when you unplug one of the plugs, you do indeed read 120V on the PLUG. ie. shock hazard. Annnd, in...

Poll: Is your Leaf your daily driver?

As far as having multiple options to choose from (like my spouse has an ICE AND I occasionally use an ICE for other tasks), just pick one of the two. No poll can be 100% accurate without getting way too complicated (which is why simple political opinion polls are inaccurate!), but it will...

Poll: Is your Leaf your daily driver?

My strong suspicion was that the vast majority of EV owners use their EV as their daily driver. However, there is a perception out there that this isn't the case - I wanted to get some data from these polls to see what the facts were.

Poll: Is your Leaf your daily driver?

I posted a similar poll over on the Tesla forums and found the results rather interesting, so I though I'd post a Leaf poll here. Many non-EV drivers believe that Leaf owners just use their car as a secondary vehicle - ie, it isn't their daily driver. But I have yet to see a poll about this...
