Questions Strangers Ask about your Leaf?

Yes. I've persuaded, well maybe not persuaded, but I talk about our Leaf all the time around my peers, and two of them now have Leafs. Since we're the only people they know who drive an EV, I'll take credit for why they are driving a Leaf. Mostly my selling point is the cost/mile and low/no...

    12v Battery Replacement Reminder

I'm also on my original 12V battery. Our ICE is newer and I've had to replace the Ford Escape battery twice since 2015, but we put more miles on the ICE. Leaf is a 2012. Was in Seattle for her first 12k miles, now Minnesota.

Battery health of this used 2011 Leaf

Yeah exactly! I'd buy it for 3k too, but only if I could use it. Currently I could but a 7 bar car is not for everyone. Up here in Minnesota, you'd be lucky to get 20 miles on a full charge with a 7 bar car on some January days. The 2011-2012 leaf is not a great car for extreme cold (like 30-50...

Adjustable EVSE with a 10-50R plug?

Thanks for the responses! I was unaware that my Leaf will only take up to 16 amps. Probably not worth getting an adjustable evse then. I'll probably just buy a duosida for the cost savings.

Adjustable EVSE with a 10-50R plug?

I am sure it's a 10-50. Just two hots and a neutral. My guess is it's for an old (pre 1990) welder or something. I could change out the plug if the car ignores the ground; would use the neutral as ground. Definitely would prefer not to run new wires or a dedicated ground.

Battery health of this used 2011 Leaf

I have a 2012 with almost the exact same mileage and still have 11 bars. That's not good. I wouldn't buy it unless it was really cheap and had a very short commute and also lived close to all my daily activities.

Adjustable EVSE with a 10-50R plug?

We've had a 2012 leaf for three years and previously charged with a 20 amp 120v dedicated circuit and the supplied evse, which was good enough most of the time but I would've preferred faster charging on weekends and occasionally during the winter. We just moved into a new house and there's a...

    Clicking/grinding when turning wheel

I think mine was the hub. At least, my wife drove into a curb, the car was making a high pitched whining noise. Took it in. Left front hub was terrible; wouldn't even turn by hand. Replaced (about 500 bucks). Noise is now gone when turning the wheel.

    Clicking/grinding when turning wheel

I thought of CV joints, as I've had that replaced on cars before, but at only 18,000 miles that seemed unlikely. Additionally, the noise/clicking goes away towards the end of trips, or when the weather warms up. I don't think CV joints are weather sensitive.

    Clicking/grinding when turning wheel

Hmm. Strut wouldn't really make sense, as it doesn't make noise when I go over a bump, only when turning the wheel. It's gotta be a bearing going bad though.

    Clicking/grinding when turning wheel

I've noticed that there is a grinding/popping feeling and noise coming from the left wheel area when I turn the steering wheel to the left, especially when starting out and especially when it's cold. Can feel it with my left foot. Unfortunately I live in MN, so it's always cold. This didn't...

Bluetooth Pairing Problems with two Phones

My wife and I have the same problem on our '12 leaf. She just gave up pairing her phone with the car.

    FIRE using LVL 1 - 120 V Trickle Charger

Noticed this now. I tried two circuits/breakers-one in the garage, which only has fuses and didn't work, and one outside outlet, which is the same circuit as our kitchen- so fridge, stove, microwave are all on there. No issues with the outlet or charging in these last few months. I know the...

    Post Your Battery Degradation Results

Finally lost our first bar last week on Thursday. :( Sad to see it go. I was hoping with the infinitely cold weather now here until May it would stay another winter, but I guess not. Batt stats: Ahr 54.94, SOH 83%, 17,449 miles, 2012. Lived in Seattle before we bought it here in Feb 2016.

    FIRE using LVL 1 - 120 V Trickle Charger

I felt like an idiot when we bought our leaf and I brought it home to our 1950 house, plugged it in to the garage, and it popped the breaker. Tried other outlets, and they all popped the breakers too. I had to wire a dedicated 20A circuit to the garage with a new 20A receptacle to charge the...
