Existing Home Electric Versus Second EV Meter - Economics

Neither did I until last week. 400 amp service exists. We have our own town plant, that may help!

Yes, I did a load calculation as did the electrician. If I did a 240 volt line from my existing 200 amp panel like I said the max amps run would be 40 amps, not future proof! Teslas need more than the 30 amps needed for the leaf. They are already up to 85amps so I think 100 amps should suffice.

So in my case, to put in a 240 volt line on my existing home service would have been More expensive $1850 electrical fee v $1,000 Put more strain on my existing 200 amp service Maximum amps would have been 40 amps on the line Put a trench in my garden at more cost and hassle So it's capacity...

So it's all finally hooked up! 12kwh used off peak to refill battery from 45% full. A 45 mile round trip is costing 60 cents. Incredible! I ended up getting an electrical supply and account just for the car. Fees involved. $1,000 electrician $35 permit $300 smart meter $0 electrical drop from...

Charge Timer on 2013 Leaf S - Can someone Tell Me

Hey! Thanks so much for explaining that! I got the EVSE upgraded trickle charger so it will charge in 5 hours it says even though there is 45% battery left! How much effort would it have taken them to create a timer on time!! Thanks for the quick reply!!!

So are we suggesting that the upgraded EVSE of the standard leaf EVSE should operate from a 40 amp fuse?

Existing Home Electric Versus Second EV Meter - Economics

True, however I had the first two electricians say that this option would be 'wayyy more money'. The third quote I got, the guy was like 'its less hassle for me so ill do it cheaper' plus the first two guys said just the drop from the power company would cost $500-600. It didn't. It was free...

So we should put the EvSe upgraded leaf charger on a 30 amp fuse or what then?
  13. E

Existing Home Electric Versus Second EV Meter - Economics

Yes to both! Almost the last option you'd think of! It would be 9 years just to break even with the price difference and maybe containing yourself to 50 amps or less service in future

Existing Home Electric Versus Second EV Meter - Economics

With the trench guy not turning up and electrician quotes all over the place among other things I've decided to just get a second service to the garage to supply the EV. Electrical co do the wire drop to the garage for free and the electrical install is obviously way easier no trench. I just...
