    Heater/AC Fan Removal?

Naturally I have no experience with RHD cars, but it appears to me all of your pictures are too low. I sort of recall the fan being pretty high up in there. Can you get a few pics of the area higher up?

    Heater/AC Fan Removal?

Glad it worked and saved you all that money. And time. I just wonder, was the dealer padding that repair? Surely they know that the dash doesn't really need to come apart. Or if they call that "coming apart", that it still takes less than an hour. By the way, Rockauto sells the fan for...

Control Heat Pump With Wall Thermostat

Mine is a genuine split system, not a through the window unit. It is designed specifically for self installation. The lines are sealed, and I believe, evacuated and precharged. I don't believe you could evacuate them if you wanted to - you would lose the seal. The system has been fine for a...

Control Heat Pump With Wall Thermostat

Mine is not a big name brand, but it was the only one I could find set up for do it yourself installation; most here require that the lines be evacuated and then charged. It was a fair price (about $1,400) . It is also pretty efficient, but we measure them by SEER, whatever that is; this unit...

Control Heat Pump With Wall Thermostat

Thanks again Arnis. I may try that, though I am hesitant to fool around with something that is working. I know these split systems are much more common in Europe and Asia. Are many ofthem sold with charged lines so you can do the installation yourself? Here in the US that is very hard to find.

Control Heat Pump With Wall Thermostat

Thanks, Arnis. You mean add a resistor instead of just breaking the circuit to the thermostat? Any idea what size resistor I might try? I don't think my unit has a vcation mode; it is a pretty low end model. In the US, none of the really good ones seem to be set up for do it yourself (pre...

Control Heat Pump With Wall Thermostat

In case anyone is looking to do something similar, here is what I did. I could not get my Rube Goldberg relay/heat pad to work - the temp sensor was buried too deep in the unit. But I did find the ambient air sensor that Wayne saw in the parts diagram. It had a simple two wire connector to...

    Powering down

It is good to know this technique to power it down. But generally, I think you would be much better off just putting it in neutral. Powering down will probably deactivate the airbags. You also will not be able to put it back in Drive until the car comes to a complete stop.

    Heater/AC Fan Removal?

I have found no surefire way of keeping rodents out. Sometimes mothballs or pepermint oil work, but you probably don't want either near your fan. Using the vehicle frequently will discourage them. If you're parking in a garage, setting traps near the car will help too. I planned to take my...

Why Do Chademo and L2 Installations Take So Long

Meanwhile, at the Stop & Shop in Wallingford: I went away for a week, came home and there are two L2s where there used to be a brick wall. Why can't the rest of them work like that?

Caribou is the make. I don't have the model but it is their 18,000 BTU, 21 SEER.

Control Heat Pump With Wall Thermostat

Okay, here's my new thought, kind of a Rube Goldberg solution, but it might work: Heating pad on the bottom of the heat pump, connected through a relay to a thermostat. Thermostat set at 45 degrees. When the thermostat drops below, 45 degrees, it turns OFF the heating pad. The heat pump...

Control Heat Pump With Wall Thermostat

Thanks all. I guess controlling it with a line voltage thermostat doesn't sound like a good idea. Maybe I'll carefully open it up and see if anyting inside makes sense. Maybe I can find the internal thermostat and do something with that.
