Miles remaining changes too much(??) when turning on heater -- after recall service

Have had my Leaf over 5 years now. When i turn on the heater, the mileage remaining as displayed on the dash, usually goes down by about ~10%. Had been that for essentially years of ownership. For instance, if dash displayed 150 miles remaining, turning on the heater decreased it to approx 135...

    Parallel vs. Series Hybrid

Wow...is there actually thought that battery density will reach to or above gasoline density? Thats amazing! If you said only 25mpg and a 500 mi range thats 20 gallons ~200 lbs weight. It seems to me the battery industry is always promising "the next battery tech breakthrough way ahead of when...

    Parallel vs. Series Hybrid

Seems like it was a lively discussion -- Thanks (from TomCon, original poster) I got some great ideas reading thru the responses. The Nissan Arizon (now a concept car) sounds exciting. I wonder how far away production might be. I learned that the RAV4 PHEV might be close to what i am looking...

    Parallel vs. Series Hybrid

This is not exactly a Leaf question, but it seems there are alot of knowledgeable folks on this forum. When we bought our Leaf we also test-drove a Chevy Volt (that's "V"). I thought the series hybrid architecture of the Volt was "the best architecture" but we did not like the feel of being in...

Relation between Capacity bars and Range

Thanks all for the responses. Very nice to get some information/guidelines/explanation!

Relation between Capacity bars and Range

My 2018 Leaf is now 4.5 years old. Pretty low mileage, we put on about 6,000/yr (at ~28,000 now). Capacity is still reported as 12 bars. But Mileage (at least as displayed) with a full charge is down to about 152-153, whereas when it was new and we put full charge on it, it was at 162-164...

Is the annual battery check the dealer does of any use?

I have a 2018 now going on 4 yrs old, about 24k miles. Battery is still at 12 bars. Is the report going to tell me anything useful? It doesn't really seem to be useful to me. Given you are at 12 bars, could anything be "discovered" by the evaluation they do? But i see that it seems to be...

Charging re-starts if you use timer and don't unplug

Yes, i do not have an option to "set 80%". I am trying to do that approximately using the timer. So, now i understand, so thanks. Yes, indeed i am perplexed that they simply do not offer this as an option...and as well that you have to attend to moving the charging chord if you don't use the car...

Charging re-starts if you use timer and don't unplug

Thanks for the replies! So, i see that simply setting the charge timer to limit charge time is not enough and will require the attention of making sure the next day to disconnect the charge chord. And i did not realize there was any downside to leaving the car plugged in if not charging, so...

Charging re-starts if you use timer and don't unplug

Well, this is my observation, so i want to first of all confirm that thats how it works, then ask if there is any workaround. I set charge timer to be on about 12 hours (L1) so i only charge to about 80% instead of 100%. And, timer does that, charging stops, about 80% charged. But, i found then...

Is it thought to be good/bad/neither to occasionally deep discharge the battery

Is it a good idea to occasionally deeply discharge the battery? Or, is it bad and to be avoided? Or, doesn't matter? I've had my 2018 Leaf about 7 months, and i think maybe just twice did i get to below 15%. Once was a few days ago, so i was just thinking about it. I could try to get it that...

    What's the charging efficiency?

I am only getting about 76% efficiency at L1 the way i calculate it. I have a KwH meter on the plug, so i measure the KwH going out of the plug and into the car that way. I reset the car's meter and the plug meter at the same time. Here i'll illustrate my calculation. For 153 miles driven...

Seattleites - How is your Leaf on the new 520 bridge?

Thanks everybody. Now i've learned a new term -- tramlining". That sounds like its the explanation. Tom

Seattleites - How is your Leaf on the new 520 bridge?

I am getting a huge amount of car-sway crossing the new 520 bridge in my Leaf (2018). Way more than in our other car, a Mazda CX5, which actually doesn't sway noticeably any at all, except maybe in high wind. In the Leaf, for just about every crossing, it feels like the sway you got on the old...

Using Connect app to turn off charging...strange/ambiguous

Heh, thanks for that...got the answer...not possible to "stop charging". Climate Control also seems very odd. The button says "turn on" even if its already on. So, i can't really tell if its on or not. The way i've found to Turn Off is to use the "turn on" button, and after i use it, it...
