Re: WSJ's Joanna Stern again on EV's

I could not find a way past the paywall using Edge as my browser so was only able to listen to or read the first part of the article. As someone who grew up around farm machinery and motorcycles and has owned or driven many different vehicles over the years, I think the learning curve was very short...

Re: Touchscreen / System Diagnostic Menu access

My experience (with USA Leaf's) is that the keystroke sequence timing is critical to get into the diagnostics screen. I suspect you father is not getting the buttons pressed fast enough or in the correct sequence. If he gets into the diagnostic menu, then there is a way to calibrate the touch screen...

Re: Suspension

Leaf weight distribution is almost equal front/rear so all four tires should be kept at the same pressure.

Re: need to do weekly 90 mile drive in 2014 S

If 90 miles each way, you will need to charge en-route each way along with full L2 charge at destination. That would be two DCQC sessions along with L2 overnight at home (worst case). Your battery will warm up during DCQC, but cool down slowly while driving and while parked. I suspect you might see ...

Re: LeafSpy stats on used 2015

Is the car (or was it previously) in a hot climate? My 2015 spent its time in Phoenix and was still at 8 capacity bars when I traded it with 82,000 miles, but that was 4 years ago so it would likely have lost another bar by now just from age. I agree with knightmb--the car was likely driven short di...

Re: Heating, seat and steering wheel

The seat and steering wheel heaters are supplied from the 12V battery and, if I remember correctly, are protected by fuses. The steering wheel heater will definitely not work at our present temperatures. I cannot remember whether or not the seat heaters will work when it is this hot, but it would be...

Re: Newbie. Leafspy DTC questions.

The DTC's on your Dad's car could all be left over from a low 12V battery causing communication errors on the CAN Bus network. If the parking brake works OK on your car, those errors may be from some intermittent glitch. The Multi AV errors are not unusual and not worrisome as long as the AV system ...

Re: Large parasitic draw on 12v system after windows left open in rain storm

There are some terminals of the OBDII port that are powered without the car being on, but LEAF Spy needs the CAN Bus communication to be active so it can read data from the various control modules. Therefore, the car must be on to get reliable information from LEAF Spy. Enough systems will power up ...

Re: Nissan Leaf Caught on Fire at Nissan HQ

Since the LEAF's LBC (lithium battery controller, also called BMS for battery management system) throttles charging current when the battery is warm (hot), something must have happened to either the charger (possibly failed to reduce current output) or the car's systems to allow the battery to overh...

Re: How often do you drive without ECO?

The only time I use ECO is when driving to the airport if I know I am renting a gas engine econo box at my destination. In that case, I use ECO to get used to leisurely acceleration. I don't like the pedal mapping in ECO and I don't want the computers limiting HVAC power.
