Re: Living in Apartment Building - Charging questions

watts = amperes * volts
watts * time = energy

Example:
Say the car pulls 16 Amps for 80 minutes at a public EVSE that supplies 208 v

watts = 208 * 16 = 3,328 watts = 3.328 kW
time = 80 minutes = 4/3 hours
kWh = 3.328* 4 /3 = 4.44 kWh
That's quite helpful! Thanks SageBrush!

Re: Living in Apartment Building - Charging questions

The new BC Hydro rates for DCFC are much cheaper than what EVgo charges in Arizona (but still much more expensive than charging at home). I found that actual DCFC charging rates were similar for my 2011 and 2015. My experience was that battery deterioration does decrease the maximum DCFC charge rat...

Re: Living in Apartment Building - Charging questions

If you are so keen to compare to petrol, then pay petrol rates Thank you for strengthening my argument - that's why I recommended to the OP to sell his LEAF, if his "go to" charging option is DC fast charging. Thanks to this pricing scheme, BC Hydro has made an older EV a poor choice for ...

This is true. I have seen nearly as many Leafs as Teslas (a ratio of maybe 3 teslas to a Leaf, and it is usually older Leafs), which is interesting because I didn't know so many people could afford 60,000CAD cars.

Re: Service schedule on used Leafs?

You don't need annual service if you don't need snow tires swapped. Here is what I would suggest to 'catch up': * Brake fluid flush. This is long overdue, so I'd suggest once this year, once next year, and then every 2-3 years thereafter. * Cabin filter change. The filter is likely clogged. That ca...

Re: Living in Apartment Building - Charging questions

Hopefully you have already figured out that BC Hydro, for level 3 DC charging, uses time based rates. So, for our older, slow charging LEAFs, we are paying sometimes as high as $1 per kWh on cold winter days. That's predatory pricing, an absolute rip-off. So, if your plan is to use mostly public ch...

Service schedule on used Leafs?

Hello. As I stated in a previous thread, I just got a 2012 Leaf SL with 60,500km (37,500mi) in the ODO. I have a few questions regarding servicing it: 1) Should I bring it in for service every 10,000km? Every year? Every few months? 2) Should I take it in to Nissan or would any shop be able to work ...

Re: Living in Apartment Building - Charging questions

When I saw the title, I thought there might be a discussion on wiring up an outlet for you. I am a landlord and wonder how this will play out as more and more people will be purchasing electric cars. Talk to your landlord and see if they'd be willing to split the cost with you to have an electricia...

Re: Living in Apartment Building - Charging questions

The 30kwh batteries are gone, because many if not most of them were terrible. The good news is that since warranty replacements are now 40kwh batteries from the Gen II Leaf, those should be available in another year or two, if not sooner, to buy. You'd be looking at a range of roughly 150 miles wit...

Re: Living in Apartment Building - Charging questions

That's exactly what it means. Degradation reduces capacity. Thanks! Noted. I don't understand the question, I'm afraid. As in, the battery drains faster when it's fully charged and once it gets to the 50% ish it kind of plateaus. Based on later responses, I can tell this is wishful thinking. Short ...
