Re: Bits & Pieces

He has to derate the wire ampacity to 80% from the 90C column for THHN because he is running 4 - 6 current carrying conductors in conduit. If you are going to randomly berate people for random reasons, at least try to get your facts straight. I ran one 10-3 (+G) cable and one 12-2 (+G) cable. That'...

Welcome. Yes, that's a standard 12 volt starting battery. If you plan to keep the car, I suggest replacing it with a 12 volt automotive AGM battery, as they are more robust.

Re: Bits & Pieces

I told you - the conduit was just to protect the cable from physical damage. It was going to be passing through a storage loft. The original plan was just NM cable (which I had bought years ago) for the rest of the run, but my housemate as uneasy with that. Even if I didn't have the cable already, I...

Re: The battery replacement/buyback thread.

How about a little cool-off, folks? My take on extended warranties is that if you can get a decent one cheap (less common but possible) AND you plan to keep the car, it's cheap peace of mind. One thing that most buyers don't understand, though, is that you can buy those manufacturer extended warranti...

Re: Bits & Pieces

I have and used fish wire. I had the best result on the long straight pull using my housemate to pull (after the fish wire came through) while I pushed. On the bends I had to use silicone spay on several. This wasn't my first romex pull - it as just my hardest. Fortunately, this wasn't required cond...

Re: 2020 LEAF SL Plus

It should be kept in mind that using the GOM to estimate degradation isn't a great idea - it just isn't accurate enough.

Re: Hello...might become Leaf owner...but need help.

You have an excellent point regarding the Gen 1 Leaf and degradation. Your best bet, Leaf-wise, would be to find a Gen 2 Leaf instead. It may be best, though, to get another brand of EV, with thermal management.

Re: 2014 Leaf | Didn't Start | Lots of Warning Lights

While you can buy or make a device to retain the memory while the battery swap is being done, all that you will lose without one is the window position memory and maybe the radio presets. The main issue with fuel-burning cars is the fuel injection having to re-learn some parameters in the first few ...

Re: 2014 Leaf | Didn't Start | Lots of Warning Lights

PS: I checked the 12v battery. It was at 9.8 volts. That shouldn't be a problem. Heh! A moderately charged 12 volt battery should read about 12.5 volts. 9.8 volts is "Deep coma, prognosis poor" for one. That is indeed your problem. Either the battery is old and virtually dead from old age,...
