Re: The 40KWH Battery Topic

Call it medium rate. Using the charger the way you mentioned probably won't have any severe effects on the battery so it all depends on what it is worth to have a car at xx% SOH vs (xx-1)% SOH in a few years. Or something like that. No one an tell you exactly what the difference will be but my guess...

Re: Service EV system

I think the population of folks with the EV system message is practically nil. On my 2017 model, a single charging light flashes on the dash during charging as an indicator that the DC-DC system is active. I don't know if that still applies to 2018+ models or not but measuring the current through th...

Re: Any experience with insurance value for totaled Leaf?

My dad's 2013 SV Leaf got totaled and he got $8700 for it, IIRC. I think it had about 70k miles at that point. If memory serves, that was sometime in Spring 2023.

Re: How loud is the fan supposed to be?

I assume the fan is powered by a relay somehow and it sounds like the relay is stuck in the ON position. It is certainly not normal. You can find wiring diagrams and repair manuals for your car a nicoclub.com so you might want to start there.

Re: 30kWh Leaf - Weak Cell - How Bad Is This?

I'd assume a drive cycle means the car was powered off then on, ie everytime you start it is one drive cycle. That behavior is certainly possible but it all depends on how the BMS/LBC is programmed. It seems odd to me to force turtle mode like that without throwing a fault of some kind first and I'v...

Re: 30kWh Leaf - Weak Cell - How Bad Is This?

I would say turtle mode is the worst that could happen (meaning getting stuck somewhere....) since the battery controller should shut things down before any physical damage occurs. As far as I know, keeping the weak cell above the voltage threshold for turtle should allow the car to operate normally...

Re: 30kWh Leaf - Weak Cell - How Bad Is This?

The car's battery management system will keep all the cells within a safe range. As you know, turtle mode is engaged when the lowest cell reaches the lower limit so keeping the SOC higher will help prevent that. In general, keeping the SOC high all the time will accelerate the wear on all the cells,...

Re: 2017 30kWh 10 bars 96k miles, worth buying?

10 bars sounds reasonable to me for this car. The battery warranty will run out at 100k miles so you'll be on your own but if it really has 10 bars at this point I'd expect it to continue on for some time. It's worth it if you want an EV today and it meets your mileage requirements and the price is ...

Re: New owner, mountain driving range

75 miles on a 11 bar 2017 Leaf is going to take most of the battery capacity. If the weather is good and you're careful you can probably make it with 10-20% charge remaining so if 10% is cutting it too close you might be nervous at the end of the trip. Things you can do to maximize range are to use ...

Re: Retrofit 2015 Leaf S with AC/3-way HeatPump from 2014?

I'd say it would be extremely difficult and time-consuming. As Leftie mentioned, no one has even attempted this (AFAIK) and there have been quite a few mods done already that I found pretty involved. The advantages mainly show up in mild, not cold temperatures. The heat pump heater is more efficient...
