Re: Nissan is Either Ending Free Remote Access or Wants You to Pay Them Anyway

This depressing news is about 2 weeks old now, but here it is: Nissan is now admitting, in their latest sales pitch email for Nissan Connect, that they are indeed ending the free version for Leafs made after MY 2020. There are two versions being offered , "Premium" (IIRC) for about $17 a m...

Re: Possibly overcharged, Leaf wouldn't start this morning

If the car is left plugged in for many hours after charging ends, that can drain the 12 volt battery, and THAT can result in bizarre errors and error messages. More on charging: think of the charging cable or station as a smart wall outlet. It checks for ground faults and an unreliable power supply,...

Leave it to them to fail to distinguish between "chargers" (sic) and "fast chargers."

Re: Possibly overcharged, Leaf wouldn't start this morning

Welcome. You don't have to worry about a damaging overcharge - the car will only accept as much charge as it takes to reach 100%, plus a little more to equalize the battery if needed. It isn't recommended that you leave a Leaf sitting at 100% in hot weather, or leave it that way for weeks, but that'...

Re: disconnect battery while away 3 months?

Most Leafs will behave as Gerry and Learjet have described, but there are a few that chronically undercharge their 12 volt batteries. That is why I suggested an external battery maintainer. If an outlet is available, then I still suggest that. If not, then follow the above advice.

Re: 2016 Leaf with 10 bars

He meant that if you treat the battery in a way that encourages degradation, you may well "win" a new battery under warranty. More likely now, Nissan would, if you qualify for a new battery, buy the car back, instead. What encourages degradation? Frequent fast charges (when the battery is ...

Re: disconnect battery while away 3 months?

EVs have no "starter" as such, but they do have big contactors that have to be closed with power from the 12 volt battery to "start" the car.

Re: 2023 Leaf intermittent power lock out

Welcome. If you are leaving the car plugged in after charging is done, for hours at a time, and frequently, that is killing the 12 volt battery. It's poor designing, but it's a known issue.

Re: Nissan leaf crashed on parking lot concrete beam

I think he was confusing the inverter/PDM/motor coolant loop with the battery.
