Yes they were. But no, they weren't. It's an oversimplification. It is very common for EVSEs to have a few main current settings. Common choices are 12, 16, 24, 32, and 40A. When the EVSE "offers" that amount of current to the car, it doesn't mean the car will use that much. It means the car...

    '20 SV 40kWh charging speeds/standards

I have a 120V 20A circuit in my garage, so I added a 5-20 outlet to it. I bought a 16A Duosida EVSE on ebay. It had a 14-50 plug, which I replaced with a 5-20 plug. It definitely works great, and charges at about 2kw as expected. This is a 2015 Leaf SL. Since it doesn't have any dashboard...

Need explanation about Nissan Leaf charging process

No, there is no pairing. They aren't shunts that move electricity from one cell to another cell. They are simply resistors that burn off extra voltage from any cell that needs it. Watch LeafSpy for a while and you'll see that there are often many more, or many less, than half red or blue...

Need explanation about Nissan Leaf charging process

Physically, there are 48 modules in series. Each module consists of 4 cells in 2P2S, meaning put 2 cells in parallel, and put 2 of those pairs in series. Each cell is about 4v; each module is about 8v; the whole pack is about 380v at full charge. The system sees all of this as 96 cells...

Agreed; the Leaf can't do 32 amps. Its charger maxes out at 6.6kw, so the most it would pull on a 32A setting would be 27A at 240V. Not a huge value increase from 24 to 27.

    Am I doing much damage?

How is that going to screw things up? Just plug it back in when you get home from the grocery store at 3am. So you get 5 hours of charge that night instead of six. That's not going to hurt anything, for your next random outing around town. At 6am you're still going to charged a lot, and the next...

    Continued use of OBD2

Yes, it is completely safe to drive with it connected. In fact, "A Better Route Planner" GPS software has an option for getting real-time battery status from LeafSpy via the OBD2 connection, while driving. I would not leave it plugged in if you are going to let your car sit unused for a week...

When Will My Leaf Batteries "die"

I don't know about all years, but my 2015 SL has real leather seats.

When Will My Leaf Batteries "die"

I have to agree with NeguE's first answer: nobody knows. However, I would be slightly more optimistic, given strict constraints: if you only drive 10 miles per day, only charge at home on Level 1, and always keep the SoC between 20% to 80% (don't ever charge it to 100% full), it could last...

How do I limit my EVCharger 296900 to 12A

I don't know about the SAE spec, but multiple EVSEs out there can go higher than 12A on 120V. My Duosida does16A, regardless of voltage. I swapped the 14-50 plug for a 5-20 plug, and charge at 2kw.

Heating your car without losing any range

Araknai’s diesel heater needs venting. It is designed to mount on an exterior wall with a permanent exhaust outside. I too am curious about their setup and venting.

    Fermata FE-20 approved by Nissan

Yeah the US census bureau says 44% of houses in the US were built before 1970. I expect that likely most or all of those probably have inadequate service for a 20KW device like this. https://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/programs-surveys/ahs/working-papers/Housing-by-Year-Built.pdf This...

    Fermata FE-20 approved by Nissan

Sure it will. 20KW is the max, not "always". It's all software driven, so you or Fermata will be able to adjust the parameters as needed. But even at 20KW, that's 83A. That's no problem in any house with modern 200A service. Heck, you can buy a 27KW tankless water heater for under $500...

Nissan Leaf Caught on Fire at Nissan HQ

And even if it can be shown there was no owner abuse, one or two fires in 14 years of production just isn't enough for a recall.

$4000 tax break? Has anyone gotten it on a used Leaf?

Did you do the math to consider charging on 120v? Just plug the car in every night when you come home, and let it trickle. I started with the standard charger, then bought a used Duosida 16 amp charger on eBay for under $100. I changed the plug on it from 240v 14-50 to 120v 6-20, and I use it...

Thanks for the info. I just bought one at Cascadia Motors, in Milwaukie, but I'll keep Platt in mind for the future.
