    Tire recommendation

I always run my tyres at, or close to the highest psi the manufacturer suggests, as it gives sharper handling in corners, and less wear to the outer edges (actually, almost perfectly even wear across the full width); however when my tyres HAVE been repeatedly, vastly over pressured by an idiot...

    Discouraged by 2013 resale value

We do still have a few regional flights, but yeah, by the time you have got through security, a train or even car is faster. The US train network is like a Chinese apartment; it was built - but then nothing done to it ever again - until it falls apart and gets demolished.

    Discouraged by 2013 resale value

America likes to think it is at the bleeding edge of technology, but although many areas of advanced technology ARE developed in the US; the average US resident is a Luddite who refuses to stop using their Iron Age implements. They cant even get trains right.

The only major countries still using lots of coal to generate electricity are also the most backward - the USA, China, and India. The UK switched off it's last coal station recently - but it was only providing tenths of a percent of our generation capacity anyway.

SHENZHEN FACTORY TECHNOLOGY battery packs- is it real?

I pulled in next to the only working charger at Stafford South motorway station to find an older Leaf charging, "No worries", I thought, "It's already at 74%, the driver will be going soon". At 80%, the driver got out of the car and walked off!! By 90%, the car was drawing about 2KW; at this...

With LiPo battery solutions costing upwards of £1,000 per KWh, we are all sitting on a fortune.

Is there an app for the Chevy Bolt like Leaf Spy

I am not sure why you arent seeing a video link; it still shows and plays for me, both inset and using the option to play it on the YT site; perhaps anyone else reading this topic could comment if they are seeing it. You could also search the guys name + "YouTube", he has a huge channel, with...

SHENZHEN FACTORY TECHNOLOGY battery packs- is it real?

This is one of the worries I have about the CCS - Chad adapters; the early EV car designers planned around 50KW; if the car is charging at up to 75KW; there is going to be a lot more heat (and battery degradation), than expected.

Parking brake not quite holding after ‘sqealing’ fix

I have had a fraying handbrake cable that was stopping the hand brake from fully disengaging, causing drag. If you are still seeing MPG loss, it might be worth changing the cable (checking it involves pretty much the same as changing it).

Is there an app for the Chevy Bolt like Leaf Spy

There are apps for most cars; but your best option would be to find a Bolt users forum and ask there. Having said that; Car Scanner works on a range of cars; although I dont know if it has all the details LeafSpy gives. I have a Kia Soul, and use EV Watchdog, which is Kia/Hyundai specific, and...

Extending range of 24kWh Leaf with LeafBox

I did some quick and dirty maths; based on the claimed improvements; the cost to purchase and the cost of charging at home; break even is 250,000 miles.......

Replaced PDM but dealer still can't get the car to charge

Agreed, change the 12v battery for one that hasnt been drained to nothing; especially if it is a "Calcium Technology" formulation, as opposed to the older (cheaper) Lead-Acid. I have had nothing but issues with those Calcium tech batteries since they came out 20 years ago; and at one point was...

charging with 15 amp extension cords

I am unaware of any POWER cable that uses twisted pairs in a small enough cross-section for domestic use - it is used in extremely large power cabled (100mm +); however I have never done the math on how it would effect inductive resistance in a long time.

charging with 15 amp extension cords

Length doesnt cause as much heat as a joint, or rather it does, but the heat is spread out along the length, so is rarely an issue*; the greatest issue with length is the voltage drop; whereas a joint has the heat focused in a small area - which can be dangerous. There are engineering charts...

charging with 15 amp extension cords

It isnt quite that simple, it also varies with current and temperature - that is why all superconductors are cooled to near absolute zero.

charging with 15 amp extension cords

As a qualified industrial electrician. Yes, coiled cables will cause inductive resistance. Increased resistance causes heat. Heat causes higher resistance. Long lengths lead to higher resistance - which leads to more heat. If you examine any domestic coiled cable extension, it will either say...

SHENZHEN FACTORY TECHNOLOGY battery packs- is it real?

Having lived in China - life is cheap, and screwing over customers is standard business operating procedure. Do you remember what happened to Renault with the Twizzy launch?? Or just this last week, using contaminated tankers partly filled with toxic chemicals to then transport cooking oils -...

Hi All Pls comment my screen dump about 2 no ok items please. Is there anything i can do to clear these 2 not ok items? My Leaf has no driving problem

If you have run a scanner and it is finding no faults, just 3 old error messages; then yes, resetting is almost certainly safe. Then take the car for a sedate run around the local area and check for new error messages after a few miles; if there are any - that is the time to book it into a...

Hi All Pls comment my screen dump about 2 no ok items please. Is there anything i can do to clear these 2 not ok items? My Leaf has no driving problem

Car Scanner Free version can usually clear error messages; however if the fault still exists, they will come back. Canbus errors can occur as well, if you have changed or disconnected the 12v battery; if the car has been in the garage for any reason, they may well have done this.

Got my CCS1 -> CHAdeMO adapter in the mail. A few pictures.

FYI, I just did my bi-weekly check of the Chinese company making the CCS2 adapter, and the GBP price has nearly HALVED; price before tax if you order 1000 units is now just under £400; previously around £700. Watch for the UK reseller prices to drop soon; or time to organise a club bulk purchase ?
