This photo was provided by TowSafe who fitted my detachable tow bar. It shows a permanently fitted one, above the centre light.

The light is fitted at the factory for UK built cars.

I've not bottomed out. There is a scant 20cm between the hitch and my driveway. The hitch receiver protrudes about 5cm back past the fog light, this does not seem to be too far behind the rear wheels. The actual tow bar then angles up. I think the 62kWh models would be more at risk of bottoming...

As well as excessive freight, the item will not have compliance with relevant local standards so would cause problems at vehicle inspection (WoF) time.I've given the OP a link, he could also just google as there are plenty of (local) suppliers at around the same price I paid here in New Zealand...

I had TowSafe put one on my e+. I chose one with a removeable hitch, to make it easier to mount my bike carrier, so this costs a little more. Price was $800 incl GST and wiring plug.

I've seen some posts on the internal fuse inside the battery pack for early model Leafs. They referenced a datasheet from PEC with a fuse rated at 225A. Do we know what is fitted to later 30/40/62kWh batteries ? I'm looking at using one of these in a second life project and the regulations...

That is huge. IMO, it is no longer a Leaf - a branch ? - although we see this with each new generation of car typically becoming bigger than the previous.

I'm going to ask my insurance company to justify their statement that the Leaf was one of the more at risk of being stolen, which is what they told me when I bought it. Could be a country specific thing ? Or are they just seeking more $$

Definitely stolen pictures. EV Enhanced are in my city and did not get this battery project to marketable status (yet). They will be unrelated / unaware of the scammy Malaysian seller.

If you have any electrical / electronics knowledge then it is easy to replace the charge controller with OpenEVSE, and also let this be a life lesson not to fall for consumer crap that only works when cloud connected...

The point was that it is physically possible to fit a spare tyre in the space under the boot, not whether it was a legal requirement. An earlier comment pointed out that the electric parking brake on earlier models might preclude that if the mechanism protrudes into the space. YMMV, DYOR etc.
