I-5 Over the Tejon Pass with EV Express DC Fast Chargers

Although it is nice to have these new DCFCs in the valley and over the Grapevine, it should be realize that in spite of Paul's heroic trip utilizing the new chargers, they would be of limited use in the future. Paul used the charger to get approximately 10 kW of energy at each stop. If you have...

    Designated Residential EV Parking Spot?

I agree...As for plan B, I just realized how vulnerable I am. I have two EV's that I charge in my garage overnight, Every few years they resurface the street in front of my house and we are forced to park on the street, some distance from the house. The nearest L3 charger is at the Nissan...

    Designated Residential EV Parking Spot?

The OP said: I currently live in a townhouse with street parking and my charging cable can only reach my car if I'm parked in front of my house. Davewill - how can the cord get from the house to the street without crossing some sort of pedestrian pathway. Since the OP lives in a townhouse, I...

    Designated Residential EV Parking Spot?

I am amazed that no one has brought up the "trip" hazard of having a power cord draped over the public sidewalk. The few times I have tried to plug-in at a hotel, they are always careful to make sure that the cord doesn't cross an area where someone might walk and then trip, fall ,(and sue!!!)...

    Public Charging Problems

I copied this from another thread (http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=19528&start=170) where a respondant was complaining about the long lines at his local L3 charger. I think it is very applicable to this discussion, It appears that there are at least two groups of L3 users...

$450 bill from NRG / eVgo

I think I somewhat misstated my case. It appears that there are at least two groups of L3 users: a) local residents b) travelers Lets consider case "a": Tesla is running into this problem with their SuperCharger network. These were originally designed to allow Model S users to...

$450 bill from NRG / eVgo

In my limited experience, I prefer drees approach to Dave's. I live in Bakersfield and occasionally travel to LA, From the charger in Canyon Country to my house is 86 miles including a 4000' hill. I therefore need to get a full charge before I attempt this. 45-60 minutes at L3 will do it...

$450 bill from NRG / eVgo

drees: Your plan makes more sense than mine!! Now how do we go about getting NRG to accept it?

$450 bill from NRG / eVgo

A member on the RAV4 EV forum replied to this post by saying that he thought this was NRG's plan. That is, make the Flex plan pricing so onerous that no one would sign up for it. my response was: That makes no business sense at all. The object of the business must be to expand the customer...

$450 bill from NRG / eVgo

Thanks to Tony Williams, I now have JdeMO adaptor on my RAV4, so I was able to use eVgo for the first time. Of course I ran into some problems, but their customer service was very nice, I spoke to one of their reps when I hadn't received a bill for a while, and it turns out that they somehow...

EV Trip Report: Bakersfield to Los Angeles & Return

In the past I also recharged my RAV4 at that Nissan dealer. The service guys were very nice and let me charge, and I went to Mimi's Café next door for breakfast. I brought back some muffins as a gift. The sales manager was not as nice, and told me to get my RAV4 out of there immediately. I...

$450 bill from NRG / eVgo

While this may have been tongue-in-cheek, there is an element of truth in your statement. ;) My nearest Supercharger is 34 miles away. Too far for regular use, and too close for me to use as a charge on my way to LA. Perhaps on the return trip from LA I might charge there before returning...

Non-functioning Level 1 EVSE for sale

Glenn: As I said, this one is made by Clipper Creek, and is much better than the orange colored EVSE's that came with the earlier Volts. Are you interested in trying to fix this one? If you can fix it, I will give you $100, if you can't, you can keep it (unless someone else wants to buy it...

Non-functioning Level 1 EVSE for sale

I have a Voltec EVSE that came with my 2014 Volt that I stupidly smoked by applying 240V :( . It no longer functions. I partially disassembled it and could find no obvious burned parts :) . The EVSE board is made by Clipper Creek :D . If someone is experienced with electronics, it could...

Trip Report: Bakersfield to Tehachapi, California

Last time I looked, they were NEMA 14-30 outlets on a 30A breaker. People have reported using them at 26-28A. This is why I cut the neutral pin off my 14-50 plug so that it would also fit a 14-30 outlet.
