I remember there was voltage from the Power pin, not the sensor pin. My guess was that power went into the sensor and based on the sensor's reaction to light, would give a modified signal (voltage?) back to the sensor pin which the BCM would interpret. As I recall I also mistakenly swapped...

I don't know. The wife drives the car mostly, so I'll ask her and report back. Ok, she says the instrument lights dim like it normally does when the headlights are turned on. Whatever setting it's set to. Doesn't appear to have "active" / varying dimming like with some other cars.

I figured out Automatic Headlights using OEM hardware (signal stalk aka combination switch and optical sensor). Besides the hardware there is a software component to this. The Auto Headlight function needs to be turned on and the settings need to be set. Here's the thread...

I don't think my iPhone can beat that. For a short commute there's no better used EV deal than a Leaf (IMO). I've seen 2011's with 35k miles selling around the $6k price point. With a L2 ESVE a 40 mile round trip is completely manageable, even with up to 35% of battery degradation.

So there's only a constant 12v up there at the map light? No ignition 12v? Thanks.

Here are some final pictures of the install. Please note that on the back of the sensor there is a "3" molded on it which I mistakenly took for a label to pin #3. This is incorrect, as that is actually pin #1, which connects to the +5V from the BCM. Pin #2 connects to the Optical Sensor input...

Sorry, I don't even know what that feature is... My stalk was from a 2012-2014 Nissan Pathfinder (Nissan Part #: 25560-3ka8e). The owner added factory foglights which required the stalk to be upgraded to one with the fog controls on it. But I did get the Auto Headlights feature to work with...

FYI I've been working on another thread to add Auto headlights to my S, and found that there's a software component to DTRL. Cars equipped with the hardware needs the software switch turned on. See picture below from the BCS section of the service manual. autolight by tk_1971, on Flickr

Got the Beta version of LeafSpy Pro and although I can change the settings, the auto light function still doesn't work. I've done some more homework on the Auto Light feature. I even went so far as to track down the different versions of the BCM which I found out should not be program-specific...
