Ford Ditches CCS for Tesla Plug

Things are changing a little now, but in the early days the providers would require you to put a deposit into your charging account (like $25) and then charging sessions that were authenticated by their card would be subtracted from your account. When your amount got low, they would...

Neighbor had 2011 LEAF OBC replaced

He spent a total of $2600 for the repair at the local Nissan dealership. The car stopped L2 charging at home. He didn't try it at any other sites or on a Chademo charger. He had it replaced without mentioning it to me; I would have helped him troubleshoot it a bit. After the OBC replacement...

    CHADEMO to CCS adapter?

I bought the Setec adapter and it didn't work on a Model S or a Model 3 at ANY of the three EA and EVgo stations I went to. Contacted them for a refund and they wanted me to start trying different firmware. I didn't want to, but I tried their new firmware. It didn't work either. 0%...

    Wallbox Quasar V2X update

Utilities will require UL/NRTL testing as part of the interconnection process. The Wallbox folks can't really apply for UL/NRTL testing until they are done designing the product for North America (and the testing can take a while and cost a bit). As far as the price for testing, an OEM that...

Why am I only getting 3 kw when I charge at 240 volts?

Do you live in a single family home? Those are usually fed with 240/120v. But if you live in a multi-family home such as a condo or apartment, those are usually fed at 208/120v. That could account for a slightly reduced power level...

    Tesla Supercharger Network

Here is an example where Tesla wanted to install superchargers on a Pasadena city parking structure/lot and the only way they could get permission from the City of Pasadena was to provide $140K worth of infrastructure for the City to install their own fast charging stations...I think we'll see...

    CHAdeMO dead?

Riddle me this, group. Scenario: Electrify America site. Say it has 3 dispenser cabinets, and each cabinet has two nozzles. 2 of the 3 have dual CCS, even though only one car can be charged at one time. The third cabinet has a CCS nozzle and a Chademo nozzle. How would you count this site...

Demand Charges, storage costs and Public DCQC

I work for the utility in San Diego. When people post about demand charges and how bad they are, I feel that they are missing an important fact that is not often discussed. The demand charges on commercial rates go hand-in-hand with much lower energy prices, on the order of 1/3 the price or...

Texas, ERCOT, PUC and the severe winter storm

Think of the frequency of the power system like a belt-driven table saw. When it is free running at a steady state, that equates to 60 Hz on a power system. When you shove a big piece of wood through the saw to cut it (similar to adding to the power system load), you can hear the motor on the...

Leaf SOH bars too good to be true?

Don't forget, the first bar is worth something like 15% and subsequent bars are worth about half that (if I'm remembering correctly). So it takes longer for the first bar to disappear than others...

GCR: Report: California will need massive grid upgrades for 2035 electric-car push

In that particular example (possible rolling blackouts), it isn't so much that grid upgrades are necessary as much as it is new generation resources are needed. Fossil plants have been retiring and the State is short of generation resources. Diablo Canyon will be retired in a few short years...

    Official Tesla Model 3 thread

fyi, since you're talking about perhaps getting a Model 3. Even though the non-Tesla charger doesn't have the pushbutton to open the charge port, all you have to do outside the car to open the port is touch it and give a little push and it will open up. You don't need to do it from the...

Wife just lost 1st cap. bar on her 2012 Leaf S.V. "Lizard Pack"

I don't know where you're located (you can fill in your profile), but I think that losing one bar after over 50,000 miles is pretty good for a LEAF battery...

has anyone actually paid for an out of warranty battery replacement

My 2011 battery was replaced by Nissan just outside of the warranty period a little less than 3 years ago. Back when they were more "cooperative", they offered to pay 80% if I paid 20%. I took them up on the deal... Fast forward, if I were going to pay for a pack replacement now, I would try...

Demo'ed at the recent CES...Ex-Tesla Supercharge team member Doug Alfaro debuts the "Quasar" bi-directional EVSE. Priced at $4K. V2H system using Chademo connector. Sounds like it runs from a 40 amp circuit...Only works now on LEAFs and Outlanders...
