Arizona battery degradation/ heat precaution questions

I want to thank all the wonderful posters here whom in the last few weeks helped me tremendously especially SageBrush Eric whom I thanked thru the PMs. On Saturday I'm trading in my Leaf and getting my Fiat back. The lack of TMS was too much a concern for me and the Fiat has two systems...

Arizona battery degradation/ heat precaution questions

Hi. Ok sounds good. I certainly have plenty of time as I asked about the paperwork today and Carvana said likely that title won't get to me till late July. Then I suppose I'll decide then what to do with it. Thanks for your reply, stay cool up there in Phx.

Will a used 2015 leaf suit my needs

Ok. Good luck with that. As far as the heat pump I would get that if living in an area where you'd use heat more often than not. For me in AZ that isn't needed. The heated seats will suit me fine. Keep us posted when you are free to post.

Arizona battery degradation/ heat precaution questions

Ok, I get it now, thanks for the reply :) Ahh ok so average, until our heat gets to it long term then the chit hits the fan LOL Correct---- NO charges since that 80% And correct as well on zeroing the miles/kWh meter when I was at 80% I just got the first LBM, I have to admit that...

Arizona battery degradation/ heat precaution questions

First, thank you very much Eric for ALL your replies here; I'm very grateful and appreciative for sure; you've helped tremendously! I understand the math now, that's a good test in absence of the Leaf Spy. Not too bad a range left I suppose. Do you think the lessened capacity is typical for...

Arizona battery degradation/ heat precaution questions

Thanks for your math, I definitely wouldn't been able to! Question on the first bolded: The 0.6 figure is the 60% I used? And then that's taken and times the kWh used we arrive at 16.77 kWh capacity on a supposedly 24 kWh battery (21 available when it's new) which leads to my second...

Arizona battery degradation/ heat precaution questions

Here are the results------> Exactly 80% to 20% SOC just now. 49.3 miles driven 4.9/kWh I really dont know if I passed or failed. I tried to look at your figures and got kinda lost :( Sorry.

Arizona battery degradation/ heat precaution questions

Ahh ok, thank you. I should have the numbers from the test today, I'm at 26% SOC. ;) At my current rate of usage, I'll be logging only a little less than 2000 miles a year on my Leaf.

Arizona battery degradation/ heat precaution questions

Hi Kelly, thanks for sharing your experience with your Leafs, much appreciated. Sounds like that battery could handle our heat here a bit better than the older batteries so this info is encouraging to me. Also was thinking while reading this, that being the Leaf unfortunately has a past...

Arizona battery degradation/ heat precaution questions

Yea that asphalt is obviously very hot and look what sits directly above it when I park: that battery lol. I try to be careful where I park. Sometimes on the sandy area of places if no trees, much cooler. Honestly today at the gym I seriously thought about if I'll even keep this car. If I...

Arizona battery degradation/ heat precaution questions

Yup. Then I'll post results and we'll see what's up. Part, or perhaps all the range issues I seem to think I have with the car is, since I've owned it, I've been operating in a slim range usage, namely never charged higher than 80% nor less than 30% (but will let it go to 20% for the test) so...

Arizona battery degradation/ heat precaution questions

I'm not planning on recharging till, as you instructed, I get to 20% I was just thinking about how speed might/could change the kwh/miles. Edit...Thank you for the explanation above with the miles/kWh, etc !

Arizona battery degradation/ heat precaution questions

True. The silliest location was on my Fiat 500e where it was in the rear passenger location area. A few times I had to maneuver the car into a space to get the J1772 to fit. :( The iMiev is the same, well the L2 is on the passenger rear while the CHAdeMO is on the driver rear. (Or maybe that...

    This is normal?

Words of truth and wisdom. At worst case the car loses a bar or two and I trade it in. For once trading it in may work to a consumers advantage: those dealers have no clue nor care about battery capacity, just as you say, the year and mileage. I saw a 2011 today on CList with only 5 bars...

    This is normal?

Ahh yea I forget about that the 1st bar is 15% loss, so thats kinda a big one to lose (at first) I was looking at Leaf cars for sale and its ironic that the used car dealers that take and publish on their ads, close up shots showing the capacity bars, and if they are missing some and not 12...

    This is normal?

Ahh ok now I understand the numbers. I think. Lol. The battery is 24kWh but only 18.7-22 is available when the battery is in good shape? I remember reading 21 somewhere. Yes I'd imagine QC is gonna heat up that battery more than L2. Seems I'm staying at 7 bars even without charging. It's at...

    This is normal?

Ok good deal. continuing the test, still have a lot of miles to go unless I hop on the freeway today but I doubt it cause its too hot now. On another note, seems L2 day time charging raises me up to 7 bars battery temp but by the next day its back to 6 like right now. So I will just charge at...
