We're debating getting our first EV.

The Hilux wass marketed in the US, it was called a Toyota Pickup. Same vehicle, different name. It was discontinued in the US and replaced with the Toyota Tacoma: I don't know if this is the same as the vehicle which continues under the Hilux name in Europe/Aus/NZ. Either way, it's a 3 litre...

Another newbie question: home charger installer in the UK. Recommendations? Ones to avoid?

Thanks for the comprehensive replies. What II really want is a 50A connection, plumbed in direct by an electrician to the mains inlet, so I can charge overnight rather than over 22 hours. There is a trip I do regularly, to Nottingham Hospital, which is just under the 66 miles range I'm getting...

Don't keep the charger cable in the boot - newbie mistake!

I'm not particularly limber. I'd have to squirm around between the front seats to get to the back of the car. Perhaps you can open the rear doors from the inside (I didn't try that) - you can't open them from the outside with a flat battery. I don't have one of those. Perhaps I'll buy one...

Another newbie question: home charger installer in the UK. Recommendations? Ones to avoid?

There are a few UK residents around, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Another newbie question: home charger installer in the UK. Recommendations? Ones to avoid?

I'm currently charging my Leaf from a 13A plug in the kitchen. This is not ideal as 1) it takes ages and 2) I can't close the door on the cable, so I have to leave the kitchen door open, which will not be ideal when the weather gets colder. It also means I can't charge the car when I'm not in...

Don't keep the charger cable in the boot - newbie mistake!

I just got back to England after a couple of months in Italy, and the Leaf was dead. I opened the driver's door with the key. Nothing worked. Obviously, I needed to charge it. The charging cable was in the boot. How do you open the boot? You can't, without 12V. Fortunately I still have...

How long do you expect your Leaf to be motoring?

When you get back, I'm intrigued by 'Leftie Biker'. I am left-handed and also considered on the left in politics, somewhere between Leon Trotsky and Prince Peter Kropotkin, a political position I consider as rational in the face of our current environmental crisis. I'd accept the label...

OBDII port on RHD 2013 Leaf

"I'd guess it's probably in a similar location to LHD cars but on the other side, but that's just a guess. In fact, it might even be on the LHD side of the car, regardless of where the steering wheel is located." It's an Japanese car, and Japan drives on the left, same as India and the UK (and...

OBDII port on RHD 2013 Leaf

I think I'm going to have to take it in to a Nissan main dealer (there is fortunately one nearby) to set up Leaf Spy Pro, find out what the build month is, and get the 2G link working, none of which I have mastered after a month+ of ownership. It missed one service (50k miles) and is overdue...

Do you have a pic of this? My car doesn't seem to have one, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

OBDII port on RHD 2013 Leaf

My twins wriggled under the dashboard and plugged in the OBDII dongle, and used their Android phone to read the diagnostics. They've gone back to school in Italy. I can't find where they plugged the OBDII dongle in. Help! I've looked on the web, but all the articles and youtubes seen to...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

I got my Leaf about a month ago. It's a 2013 Japanese one (the British-built ones came in a bit later). I'd be interested in hearing from other UK Leaf owners, about their experiences of charging away from home. I see that Instavolt now allow charging with just a contactless card, but I'm not...

How long do you expect your Leaf to be motoring?

I'd like to know more. I suspect others would too. Has this topic been covered in previous threads, to which you can refer me? Or a website? I'm a physicist, which almost by definition means I'm an information hoover. I like to understand the technology I'm using.

How long do you expect your Leaf to be motoring?

WetEV, you sound like a lithium expert. Your post was interesting, I'd like to learn more, if only to refute people who say 'your EV is just as damaging to the planet as an ICE, because of the environmental cost of manufacture'. I didn't realise lithium was so plentiful. Also, in your...

How long do you expect your Leaf to be motoring?

I don't know much about Nissan Leaves (Leafs?) having only just got one, an OBD II dongle, and a Leaf Spy Pro, which I have not yet actually tried together, I had previously relied on one of my twin kids (they've gone back to school) to implement the Android phone, a technology which I'm not...

    Emergency charging

I'm a total newbie. When I charge the Leaf it charges to 80%. Once in a while I want to go further than an 80% charge will allow me, but i can't find anywhere in the handbook that tells me how I choose the charge level. How do I do this?

How long do you expect your Leaf to be motoring?

Mine came with 77450 miles on the clock, and it's still showing 9 bars of battery health. I've got a Leaf spy and some day this week I'll have a shiny new Android phone to interrogate it, and put up the statistics so the techies in this forum can tell me whether it's worth my while replacing...

How long do you expect your Leaf to be motoring?

My previous car was a 1969 Wolseley 18/85 Automatic, I sold it to an enthusiast who has restored it to concours condition, re-built the engine and transmission and exhibits it at car shows. He expects it to see its second half-century. It's seen out 2019, it'll see 2069 if there's still fuel to...

    Newbie Leaf Spy

My kids have gone back to Italy, so I don't have access to the data any more, as they took the Android phone with them. I have one on order, it should turn up sometime next week. Then I will have to learn Android. How do I send diagnostics to my Linux computer, which is what I am using to...

    Newbie Leaf Spy

I spent £ 12.99 on a leafspy, for my 2013, 77,000 mile leaf, three previous owners. My kids (who are much more computer savvy than I am) say I should replace three cells and my car will be like brand new. It's showing nine bars, they say it should be up to 11 after replacing these calls I...
