    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

I lived in LA during the same time. It is too easy to forget how bad it was. I agree the flat tax is not the way to go. I only drive 6k a year. Let's leave the gas tax as it is, and do odometer for EV. For plug in hybrid, we could require mfg to have two odometers. Miles on electric and total...

Have you checked blue book value? The market is pretty efficient on setting prices. The only thing different about buying a EV is that the battery is more sensitive to poor operation than a ICE. So you could be buying a battery that has worn beyond it's years. I agree about Leaf spy. Its a quick...

    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

Actually that's a really good idea. Very easy to implement. Can accumulate like a odometer, so it's not resettable. But how is it much different than a milage tax? It would reward frugal driving.

    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

While I prefer the odometer based fee, you outlined the problem with the application. But this is similar to the issue with insurance. It's costly and therefore a larger percentage of low incomes. Pay as you go for gas works because if you don't pay, you don't go. I had a thought, tax on...

    Copper wire thieves

I was mostly kidding. If the solution is bring your own cable, then the cars will need retractable cables like toasters. Another idea is to go back to the idea of wireless charging. I wonder what the maximum charge rate is for wireless technology

I didn't know the super chargers had cooling fluid in the cable! How about just a 10000 volt low current charge like a electric fence when not in use. Cut the wire get A shock. 😯

In Europe they carry their own cables. I know hard to believe. I don't think Americans would ever put up with that. That's why the SAE standard has a cable negotiation protocol. We don't use it here.

    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

That we very well stated. I agree with you on so many points. "One of the main reasons given for the GPS system is that fuel tax has not kept up with more efficient vehicles, (not including the EV problem) and that is not a failure of the tax collection system but of those who's job is to make...

    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

I acknowledged that the executive agencies come up with the legislation. It's not semantics it's accuracy. Telling you representative you don't approve is sometimes too late. We need to lobby the agencies too. This means speaking at agency leader meetings and writing articles in the trade...

    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

I think you mean the legislature. I don't know a state where the legislature has given a executive branch agency the power to set gas tax rates, but if you know of one, I would like to know. I am sure the agencies give input on legislation, but they don't set the rates. This thread is making me...

Is the CCS to CHADEMO adapter legitimate?

Cornbinder89 is totally correct. You picked the wrong horse for fast charging. But that's your fault, not Nissan (they picked the wrong one too). Be happy that it can still be charged with a SAE charger!

    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

This is a great discussion. I guess that's why I always go back to odometer based taxes. It the closest analog to fuel purchase based taxes. Send in odometer reading at the end of the year with registration renewal, and the money for the taxes. There will be a lot of people that will not...

    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

I think that is the right approach. There is a privacy bill in Congress now but it only covers private industry. Maybe we need to use this opportunity to add in government privacy. But it would easier to get this done at the state level.

    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

Well I stand corrected. I see the Fey's bill in Washington and some movement in Oregon. Well as EV owners we need to get behind something that is fair to all drivers and non intrusive. Because bad ideas are adopted when there are no other options presented.

Agreed gps , odometer all have issues. The gas tax was so simple.

    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

Who is "they". The state Department of Transportation? Have you seen any policy proposal for GPS monitoring? I have seen some legislation proposed for odometer fees.

    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

I favor odometer based fees as my fee in Michigan is just a bit higher than I would have paid taxes at the pump for gasoline since I drive so few miles. The difference isn't much. A really value either way for a cross country road network. The problem with registration fees or my odometer...
