    53kw CATL Upgrade on 2013 Leaf S

And certainly as the cells age, their internal resistance will increase, some more than others, thereby makes the BMS's job more difficult. Reminds me of the early days of creating solar storage systems with B grade cells and having to use an extra active balancer to help out the BMS. I have one...

    53kw CATL Upgrade on 2013 Leaf S

I can’t speak for Mux, but in my situation, I have the slow 3.6 charger without fast charge. So I don’t foresee this ever being a problem for me. That being said, I was cognizant that the BMS would have to work longer to maintain balance due to higher capacity cells. So far a month in, and they...

    53kw CATL Upgrade on 2013 Leaf S

So far, everything is fine physically. The only issue I have is related to the range meter not learning true capacity. For example, the meter will go down 40 miles when I only drove 10, and this is after full charge. Then with about 30-40% of battery remaining, the range meter will not change...

Are my front motor mounts bad?

This is not so much a rattle, but more of a clunk when going over sudden bumps like pot holes, curbs, etc... at speeds lower than 35-40mph. I tightened subframe bolts, replaced entire suspension except swaybar bushings. However, when I replaced the swaybar links, I found no play in swaybar...

Are my front motor mounts bad?

I have 65k miles and it seems this car was in coastal southern California for all its life which is also where I am. So nothing too extreme as far as temps are concerned. I have no idea if this is common or not.

Are my front motor mounts bad?

Bad news, Nissan Wholesale Direct says there are no stock nationwide and no ETA on availability for front motor mounts.

Are my front motor mounts bad?

Thanks for making that video! Yes, the movement appears to be very similar. Maybe the only difference is with mine I think I hear a more distinct tapping noise. I did order new front mounts to see if that solves the problem...maybe I can return them if they are not the issue (but I doubt it)...

Are my front motor mounts bad?

    Yes, even the strut mounts.

Are my front motor mounts bad?

That’s what I think too. I hate to continue throwing the parts cannon at it without knowing for sure.

Are my front motor mounts bad?

Wanted to get some opinions on whether others think my motor mounts are bad in reference to the attached video. I thought I had the problem solved by replacing all front suspension components, but I guess not as I still hear clunks going over bumps at speeds slower than 40mph. In the short...

    53kw CATL Upgrade on 2013 Leaf S

Good points to keep in mind. I would put this in the experimental category, and hopefully it can be improved upon in the future as the well dries up for leaf battery replacement options. Also, I keep a respectable amount of caution...the car is not garaged. ;)

    53kw CATL Upgrade on 2013 Leaf S

I did join the ends together there. Did not pressure test, maybe it would hold a few PSI. In a thermal event, that gasket isn't holding anything back, that is for sure. It's the only thing about this whole conversion I don't like. Is does rain here, but not much. After the two halves were joined...

    53kw CATL Upgrade on 2013 Leaf S

1.) I asked them for this data, and will follow up later if/when I get that. I will say that CATL cells, in general, are considered best in the industry. These are Li-Ion Prismatic cells instead of the pouch style cells the leaf comes with. Each cell is encased in thick aluminum. I am sure pouch...

    53kw CATL Upgrade on 2013 Leaf S

No suspension modification is needed. I think it is only 50-100 pounds heavier than 24kwh. Final cost with shipping was $6500. I would say about 20 hours invested, but I am a novice with EV batteries. An oscillating saw and angle grinder are invaluable tools with this conversion.

    53kw CATL Upgrade on 2013 Leaf S

It still uses both halves, but the top section will be around 1.5-2 inches higher off the bottom half because that center section is too shallow to fit the new modules. They provide a thick spacer gasket that seals them together and longer bolts to secure the two halves together. When installing...

    53kw CATL Upgrade on 2013 Leaf S

Recently I embarked on a battery upgrade using a kit I purchased from SHENZHEN CHUNENG ENERGY ELECTRONICS CO. https://chuenergy.en.alibaba.com/ www.chuenergy.com They have several kits, but this one was for their 53kwh version. It included 8 preassembled battery modules, a mounting plate and...

Clunk/Popping noise from front end - SOLVED (User error)

Yes, I noticed it right away when I bought mine, and used that to talk them down to $2700 with 55 miles of range on the guess-o-meter. I am just glad it wasn't the motor mounts or sway bar bushings, that would be a costly repair that I would not want to tackle myself. Honestly, the underside of...
