Is it time for me to buy?

Something I haven't seen much discussion on is aftermarket replacement batteries. I had a 2001 Prius that the battery started to die on at 130K, in 2010 there were aftermarket batteries available and much cheaper than the dealer. I could get a replacement (nimh) for it for $1600. I know that's...

Is it time for me to buy?

Thanks LeftieBiker, I had a 2012 Volt for about a year. It was considerably more expensive than $229/mo. that was one of the reasons I sold it. I would like to be able to go completely electric but perhaps a bridge car is a good choice. I will look into that.

Is it time for me to buy?

I appreciate the candor of your post. You may be absolutely correct. I have wanted a leaf for some time. I was hoping the new larger battery would satisfy my needs but you and others here cast doubt on that conclusion. Perhaps it is an '18 I need and I should wait another year or so. Since I...

Is it time for me to buy?

Thanks LeftieBiker, that's good to know. I leave for work at 5am so charging will take place during the coolest part of the day.

Is it time for me to buy?

Bongo2 makes the very valid points that I would need to consider. These are the very reasons I didn't buy the LEAF I reserved in 2011. I still have the same commute (80 mi. RT) I suppose realistically speaking I should consider the commute 85 miles as some days I will go out to lunch or run a...

Is it time for me to buy?

I have an ICE car I can drive if I suspect the leaf won't make it. I also have a Nissan dealer along the route where I could grab a quick charge. I have been clocking my miles and average speed for different routes to work for the last few days. The "high speed" route (which includes an 8 mile...

Is it time for me to buy?

Thanks LeftieBiker, that's good advice. I will look in to the lease option. With the lease, I will know when I sign what I can buy it for at the end of the lease, correct? Am I crazy thinking that the fall of this year will see some very low prices on newly off-lease '16's? I figure with the...

Is it time for me to buy?

Thanks Nagorak, I have never leased a car before and hadn't really considered it. It would be nice to have the option of walking away after two or three years. I will need a 20,000 mile per year lease though, wouldn't the payment then be the same as a purchase? I was hoping the two year lease...

Is it time for me to buy?

I have a route I can take to work that is actually the shortest route at 38 miles (one way) but it is also the slowest. This would keep my speed down to 45 or so for most of the trip with just the last 9 broken down into 6 miles of 65mph and the balance stop and go. Its good to know you folks...

Is it time for me to buy?

Thanks Aussie for the detailed information. The test run is a great idea. I have looked at plugshare, I would actually be driving past a Nissan dealership on the route. I suppose I could stop in there if the need arises. Is there a problem with charging to 100% all the time? On weekends I...

Is it time for me to buy?

As you can see by my join date I've been lurking for quite a while. Don't want to trouble busy folks with simple questions so I've searched to the best of my ability but don't have all my answers. So if someone will indulge me it would be greatly appreciated. I reserved a LEAF in 2011 but...

    August delivery of 2013 LEAF?

If the early 2013's (from Japan) won't have the 6.6, leather and better heater, I think I'll wait for the Smyrna cars. It wouldn't make much sense not to, especially if the price is the same.

    August delivery of 2013 LEAF?

My dealer just called me and said they were going to start getting 2013's in August and September. Anyone else heard this? I thought it was going to be after the first of the year when the Tenn. plant comes online.

Increase in tax credit to $10K?

Pardon me if this has been covered before (I didn't find it) but does anyone know more about: President Obama's proposal calls for the electric vehicle tax credit to increase from $7,500 to $10,000 and to become a point-of-sale rebate—but it would no longer based solely on battery capacity (as...

Reserved my Leaf on March 5th, Question from a newbie

Wow, I had no idea it could be 5 months or more. I better order now. Don't some dealers have them in stock or are they all pre-ordered?

Reserved my Leaf on March 5th, Question from a newbie

Thanks for explaining the process. I do plan to charge with an aftermarket charger, not the one from Nissan. How long from placing the order till I get my car?

Reserved my Leaf on March 5th, Question from a newbie

I have at least four certified Leaf dealerships within 40 miles. I fully intend to get a price from each. I am not sure though, how the purchase process through the Leaf website works. I guess once I order my car a dealer will contact me? Or do I choose the dealer I want to buy it from?

Reserved my Leaf on March 5th, Question from a newbie

This too is good news, I could drive my entire commute at 55 or less, might tick off some of the folks on the highway but they'll get over it. Looks like I could make it in a pinch without charging at work. I have minimal elevation changes and virtually no hills. Good to know AC isn't a big...

Reserved my Leaf on March 5th, Question from a newbie

I thought as long as I can charge at work I'd be ok too. Good to have it confirmed. Regarding the $2000 discount  Is anyone discounting these cars or are they pretty much sticker plus? There is a local dealer with a 2011 demo they say they will give me a deal on, but I want a 2012.

Reserved my Leaf on March 5th, Question from a newbie

My commute is 39 miles each way, total change in elevation is 50 ft. The only "hills" are two high rise bridges. About 7 miles divided highway (60+ mph) another 6 or 7 at 45mph with intersections, 4 miles urban stop and go and the balance is country two lane, mostly 55mph. No hills to speak of...
